Journal ArticleDOI
High-resolution soft X-ray beamline ADRESS at the Swiss Light Source for resonant inelastic X-ray scattering and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopies
Vladimir N. Strocov,Thorsten Schmitt,Uwe Flechsig,Thomas J. Schmidt,A. Imhof,Q. Chen,Jörg Raabe,R. Betemps,D. Zimoch,J. Krempasky,X. Wang,X. Wang,Marco Grioni,A. Piazzalunga,A. Piazzalunga,L. Patthey +15 more
TL;DR: Concepts and technical realization of the high-resolution soft X-ray beamline ADRESS at the Swiss Light Source as well as diagnostics tools and alignment strategies are described.
Journal ArticleDOI
Observation of Two Nondispersive Magnetic Excitations in NiO by Resonant Inelastic Soft-X-Ray Scattering
Giacomo Claudio Ghiringhelli,A. Piazzalunga,Claudia Dallera,Thorsten Schmitt,Vladimir N. Strocov,J. Schlappa,Luc Patthey,X. Wang,Helmuth Berger,Marco Grioni +9 more
TL;DR: High resolution resonant inelastic x-ray scattering data measured at the Ni L3 edge (2p_{3/2}-->3d) on the paradigmatic antiferromagnetic oxide NiO reveal clear signatures of magnetic excitations at approximately 95 and approximately 190 meV whose energy seems independent from transferred momentum.
Journal ArticleDOI
Localized electronic excitations in NiO studied with resonant inelastic X-Ray scattering at the Ni M threshold: evidence of spin flip.
S. G. Chiuzbaian,Giacomo Claudio Ghiringhelli,Claudia Dallera,Marco Grioni,P. Amann,X. Wang,Lucio Braicovich,Luc Patthey +7 more
TL;DR: The good energy resolution allows an unambiguous identification of several spectral features due to excitations and the dependence of the RIXS spectra on the excitation energy gives evidence of local spin flip and yields a value of 125 +/- 15 meV for the antiferromagnetic exchange interaction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Crystal field and low energy excitations measured by high resolution RIXS at the L3 edge of Cu, Ni and Mn
Giacomo Claudio Ghiringhelli,A. Piazzalunga,X. Wang,Azzedine Bendounan,Helmuth Berger,Federico Bottegoni,N. Christensen,Claudia Dallera,Marco Grioni,J.C. Grivel,M. Moretti Sala,Luc Patthey,J. Schlappa,Thorsten Schmitt,Vladimir N. Strocov,Lucio Braicovich +15 more
TL;DR: In this article, the SAXES spectrometer is used to measure RIXS spectra at the L edges of the 3D transition metals with unprecedented energy resolution, of the order of 100 meV for Mn, Ni and Cu.
