Journal ArticleDOI
Exploring and Exploiting Pan-genomics for Crop Improvement.
TL;DR: The progress achieved in understanding crop pan-genomics is highlighted, the biological activities that cause SVs are discussed, important agronomical traits affected by SVs is reviewed, and the perspective on the application of pan- genomics in crop improvement is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Large‐scale GWAS in sorghum reveals common genetic control of grain size among cereals
Yongfu Tao,Xianrong Zhao,Xuemin Wang,Adrian Hathorn,Colleen H. Hunt,Colleen H. Hunt,Alan Cruickshank,Alan Cruickshank,Erik van Oosterom,Ian D. Godwin,Emma S. Mace,Emma S. Mace,David Jordan +12 more
TL;DR: Understanding of the genetic architecture of grain size in cereal is enhanced, and the way for exploration of underlying molecular mechanisms and manipulation of this trait in breeding practices is paved.
Journal ArticleDOI
Extensive variation within the pan-genome of cultivated and wild sorghum.
Yongfu Tao,Hong Luo,Jiabao Xu,Alan Cruickshank,Xianrong Zhao,Fei Teng,Adrian Hathorn,Xiaoyuan Wu,Yuanming Liu,Tracey Shatte,David Jordan,Hai-Chun Jing,Emma S. Mace,Emma S. Mace +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a pan-genome of 44,079 gene families with 222.6 mb of new sequence identified was generated for the sorghum primary gene pool, and the distribution of these variations was influenced by variation of recombination rate and transposable element content across the genome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Whole-Genome Analysis of Candidate genes Associated with Seed Size and Weight in Sorghum bicolor Reveals Signatures of Artificial Selection and Insights into Parallel Domestication in Cereal Crops.
Yongfu Tao,Emma S. Mace,Emma S. Mace,Shuaishuai Tai,Alan Cruickshank,Bradley C. Campbell,Xianrong Zhao,Erik van Oosterom,Ian D. Godwin,José Ramón Botella,David Jordan +10 more
TL;DR: Seed size candidate genes that exhibited differentially high expression levels in seed were found more likely to be under selection during domesticated, supporting the hypothesis that modification to seed size during domestication preferentially targeted genes for intrinsic seed size rather than genes associated with physiological factors involved in the carbohydrate supply and transport.
