Green supplier selection using fuzzy group decision making methods: A case study from the agri-food industry

A novel FMEA approach is proposed using combination weighting and fuzzy VIKOR.Combination of fuzzy AHP and entropy method is applied for risk factor weighting.Fuzzy VIKOR method is used to determine the risk priorities of failure modes.An empirical example is offered to illustrate the effectiveness of the new method. Failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) is one of the most popular reliability analysis tools for identifying, assessing and eliminating potential failure modes in a wide range of industries. In general, failure modes in FMEA are evaluated and ranked through the risk priority number (RPN), which is obtained by the multiplication of crisp values of the risk factors, such as the occurrence (O), severity (S), and detection (D) of each failure mode. However, the conventional RPN method has been considerably criticized for various reasons. To deal with the uncertainty and vagueness from humans' subjective perception and experience in risk evaluation process, this paper presents a novel approach for FMEA based on combination weighting and fuzzy VIKOR method. Integration of fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and entropy method is applied for risk factor weighting in this proposed approach. The risk priorities of the identified failure modes are obtained through next steps based on fuzzy VIKOR method. To demonstrate its potential applications, the new fuzzy FMEA is used for analyzing the risk of general anesthesia process. Finally, a sensitivity analysis is carried out to verify the robustness of the risk ranking and a comparison analysis is conducted to show the advantages of the proposed FMEA approach.

A novel approach for failure mode and effects analysis using combination weighting and fuzzy VIKOR method

A framework is proposed to link supplier development to supplier segmentation.Suppliers are evaluated and segmented based on their capabilities and willingness.Supplier development strategies are proposed for suppliers in the different segments.The proposed approach is applied to a medium-sized high-tech company.The results show the inefficiency of 'one size fits all' development strategies. The strategic supplier-related activity of supplier segmentation focuses on the evaluation of suppliers, identifying different approaches, identifying the most suitable criteria and proper methods to segment the suppliers. The main aim of the evaluation of suppliers is to form different groups from the selected suppliers to create different supplier management strategies for segments involved. Supplier development is another strategic supplier-related activity designed to upgrade the performance level of suppliers in order to create and maintain a network of competent suppliers, which has a major influence on the competitive advantages of a buying company. To allocate scarce resources more efficiently, we should design different supplier development strategies for different supplier segments. This is where we actually use the evaluation for suppliers. This paper proposes an integrative approach that includes capabilities and willingness as two dimensions for evaluating and subsequently segmenting suppliers. The results of that segmentation are then used as the main basis for supplier development. The integrative approach proposed in this paper is of significant importance, as it helps companies apportion their managerial resources more efficiently. We use a new multi-criteria decision-making method called Best Worst Method (BWM) to segment suppliers. A supplier development conceptual model is proposed to develop the suppliers in the different segments. The proposed framework is further applied to a medium-sized high-tech company as input to validate the model.

As of the time of writing there is no state of the art survey of FAHP, we carry out a literature review of 190 application papers (i.e., applied research papers), published between 2004 and 2016, by classifying them on the basis of the area of application, the identified theme, the year of publication, and so forth. The identified themes and application areas have been chosen based upon the latest state-of-the-art survey of AHP conducted by Vaidya, O., & Kumar, S. (2006). To help readers extract quick and meaningful information, the reviewed papers are summarized in various tabular formats and charts. Unlike previous literature surveys, results and findings are made available through an online (and free) testbed, which can serve as a ready reference for those who wish to apply, modify or extend FAHP in various applications areas. This online testbed makes also available one or more fuzzy pairwise comparison matrices (FPCMs) from all the reviewed papers (255źmatrices in total).In terms of results and findings, this survey shows that: (i) FAHP is used primarily in the Manufacturing, Industry and Government sectors; (ii) Asia is the torchbearer in this field, where FAHP is mostly applied in the theme areas of Selection and Evaluation; (iii) a significant amount of research papers (43% of the reviewed literature) combine FAHP with other tools, particularly with TOPSIS, QFD and ANP (AHP's variant); (iv) Chang's extent analysis method, which is used for FPCMs' weight derivation in FAHP, is still the most popular method in spite of a number of criticisms in recent years (considered in 57% of the reviewed literature).

A state-of the-art survey & testbed of fuzzy AHP (FAHP) applications

Decision making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) is considered as an effective method for the identification of cause-effect chain components of a complex system. It deals with evaluating interdependent relationships among factors and finding the critical ones through a visual structural model. Over the recent decade, a large number of studies have been done on the application of DEMATEL and many different variants have been put forward in the literature. The objective of this study is to review systematically the methodologies and applications of the DEMATEL technique. We reviewed a total of 346 papers published from 2006 to 2016 in the international journals. According to the approaches used, these publications are grouped into five categories: classical DEMATEL, fuzzy DEMATEL, grey DEMATEL, analytical network process- (ANP-) DEMATEL, and other DEMATEL. All papers with respect to each category are summarized and analyzed, pointing out their implementing procedures, real applications, and crucial findings. This systematic and comprehensive review holds valuable insights for researchers and practitioners into using the DEMATEL in terms of indicating current research trends and potential directions for further research.

Evaluating the risk of healthcare failure modes using interval 2-tuple hybrid weighted distance measure

Supplier selection is a complex multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem, which considers a number of alternative suppliers as well as conflicting and noncommensurable criteria. Considering the fact that it is difficult to precisely determine criteria weights and the ratings of alternatives on each criterion in real-life situations, the VIKOR (VIsekriterijumska optimizacija i KOmpromisno Resenje) method has been modified for intuitionistic fuzzy data in this study for supplier evaluation and selection. Further, we take into account both subjective and objective weights of criteria in the decision-making process, as most supplier selection approaches consider only subjective criteria weights. Finally, two supplier selection examples are provided to illustrate the proposed intuitionistic fuzzy hybrid VIKOR (IFH-VIKOR) method, and its merits are highlighted by comparing it with other relevant approaches.
