Journal ArticleDOI

Determination of Absolute Configuration of Natural Products: Theoretical Calculation of Electronic Circular Dichroism as a Tool.

TL;DR: The findings clearly indicate that the TDDFT calculation of ECD spectra can quantify the contribution of individual conformers and the interaction of multiple chromophores, making it possible to determine the AC of complex chiral molecules.
Journal ArticleDOI

Structure and Biosynthesis of Heat-Stable Antifungal Factor (HSAF), a Broad-Spectrum Antimycotic with a Novel Mode of Action

TL;DR: The elucidation of the chemical structure of HSAF and the identification of the genetic locus for its biosynthesis establish the foundation for future exploitation of this group of compounds as new fungicides or antifungal drugs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antifungal activity of C-27 steroidal saponins

TL;DR: The results showed that the antifungal activity of the steroidal saponins was associated with their aglycone moieties and the number and structure of monosaccharide units in their sugar chains, suggesting that the C-27 steroidal Saponins may be considered potential antIFungal leads for further preclinical study.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antioxidant activity of the dihydrochalcones aspalathin and nothofagin and their corresponding flavones in relation to other rooibos (Aspalathus linearis) flavonoids, Epigallocatechin gallate, and Trolox.

TL;DR: The antioxidant activity of rooibos flavonoids, including the dihydrochalcones aspalathin and nothofagin and their corresponding flavone glycosides, was evaluated using the ABTS radical cation, metal chelating, and Fe(II)-induced microsomal lipid peroxidation assays.
Journal ArticleDOI

Theoretical calculation of electronic circular dichroism of the rotationally restricted 3,8''-biflavonoid morelloflavone.

TL;DR: This study has provided new insights in interpreting the experimentally observed ECD spectra of this class of compounds and indicated that the rotational restrictions significantly affect the ECD of 3,8''-biflavonoids.
