Application of spinel ferrite nanoparticles in water and wastewater treatment: A review

Flavonoids are widely occurring polyphenol compounds of plant origin with multiple biological and chemical activities. Due to the presence of carbonyl and hydroxyl groups they can coordinate metal ions and form complexes. Metal complexes of flavonoids have many interesting properties: they are colored, often fluorescent, anti- or pro-oxidant, antimicrobial, antiproliferative and biologically active in many other ways. There are many papers covering specific aspects of activity of flavonoid metal complexes, e.g. their antioxidant properties, enzyme-mimicking behavior, therapeutic potential or use in chemical analysis. However, for a researcher interested in this theme, it would be useful to find an extensive review on more than one selected area. Our aim was to cover a wide spectrum of possible activities and potential applications of flavonoids coordinated to metal ions in order to give our readers a broad view on the topic of this class of compounds, their activity and potential applications. While a significant amount of information on the chemical properties and biological activity of flavonoid metal complexes can be found in the literature, an in-depth understanding of structure–property relationships is still lacking. In an attempt to address this issue, a comprehensive discussion of the available data is presented.

Properties and applications of flavonoid metal complexes

Traversing the coordination chemistry and chemical biology of hydroxamic acids

Schiff bases are the most widely used versatile ligands, able to coordinate many elements and to stabilize them in various oxidation states. Recently, this class of compounds has been employed as models for biological systems, and in control of stereochemistry in six-coordinate transition metal complexes. Recently, the chemistry of organotin(IV) complexes of Schiff bases has also stemmed from their antitumour, antimicrobial, antinematicidal, anti-insecticidal and anti-inflammatory activities. Furthermore, organotin(IV) complexes of Schiff bases present a wide variety of interesting structural possibilities. Both aliphatic and aromatic Schiff bases in their neutral and deprotonated forms have been used to yield adducts and chelates with variable stoichiometry and different modes of coordination. This critical review (>155 references) focuses upon the chemistry and biological applications of organotin(IV) complexes of Schiff bases reported in the past 15 years. Thermal behavior of these complexes is also discussed.

Chemistry and applications of organotin(IV) complexes of Schiff bases

The influence of introducing benzothiazole and benzimidazole as a pending groups into the repeating unit of PVC hasbeen studied on the bases of photostability measurements. The photostability of modified polymers were studied bymonitoring the carbonyl Index (ICO), polyene index (Ipo) and hydroxyl index (IOH), all results obtained indicated thatPAA, PSS, PNN, PSA and PNA gave lower growth rate of ICO, IPO and IOH with irradiation time with respect tounmodified PVC film (control). The following trends of photostability are obtainedPAA>PSS>PNN>PSA>PNAAccording to the experimental results several reaction mechanisms were proposed depending on the presence ofbenzothiazole and benzimidazole moieties in the polymer chain. The mode of chain scission was also investigated bymeasuring the variation of average viscosity molecular weight with irradiation time for modified PVC. The degree ofdeterioration (?) and the average number of chain scission (S) values were also calculated.

Synthesis and Photostability Study of Some Modified Poly(vinyl chloride) Containing Pendant Benzothiazole and Benzimidozole Ring

Synthesis, spectroscopic characterization, X-ray diffraction studies and in-vitro antibacterial activities of diorganotin(IV) derivatives with N-methyl-4-bromobenzohydroxamic acid

Three diorganotin(IV) complexes of the general formula R2Sn[RcC(O)N(RN)O] (Rc = aryl, RN = Alkyl) have been synthesized by refluxing in toluene the corresponding diorganotin(IV) oxides with the free ligand N-methyl p-fluorobenzohydroxamic acid, using a Dean and Stark water separator. The ligand was derived from the reaction of the corresponding p-fluorobenzoyl chloride and N-methylhydroxylamine hydrochloride in the presence of sodium hydrogen carbonate. The isolated free ligand and its respective diorganotin compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR and 1H-, 13C-, 119Sn-NMR spectroscopies. The crystal structures of the diorganotin complexes have been confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction methods. The investigations carried out on the diorganotin(IV) complexes of N-methyl p-fluorobenzohydroxamic acid confirmed a 1:2 stoichiometry. The complex formation took place through the O,O-coordination via the carbonyl oxygen and subsequent deprotonated hydroxyl group to the tin atom. The crystal structures of three diorganotin complexes were determined and were found to adopt six coordination geometries at the tin centre with coordination to two ligand moieties.

Diorganotin(IV) derivatives of N-methyl p-fluorobenzo-hydroxamic acid: Preparation, spectral characterization, X-ray diffraction studies and antitumor activity

New metal complexes of the ligand potasium-2-amino acetate benzothiazole with the metal ions Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Sn(II) were prepared in alcoholic medium. The prepared complexes were characterized by FTIR Spectroscopy, electronic spectroscopy, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, magnetic susceptibility and conductivity measurements. From the spectral measurements, monomer structures for the complexes were proposed. Square planar geometry was proposed for the copper complex. The other complexes were proposed to be tetrahedral.
