Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of SSIIIa-Deficient Mutants of Rice: The Function of SSIIIa and Pleiotropic Effects by SSIIIa Deficiency in the Rice Endosperm
Naoko Fujita,Mayumi Yoshida,Tomonori Kondo,Kaori Saito,Yoshinori Utsumi,Takashi Tokunaga,Aiko Nishi,Hikaru Satoh,Jin-Hee Park,Jay-lin Jane,Akio Miyao,Hirohiko Hirochika,Yasunori Nakamura +12 more
TL;DR: Starch synthase IIIa (SSIIIa)-deficient rice (Oryza sativa) mutants were generated using retrotransposon insertion and chemical mutagenesis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mutation of the Plastidial α-Glucan Phosphorylase Gene in Rice Affects the Synthesis and Structure of Starch in the Endosperm
Hikaru Satoh,Kensuke Shibahara,Takashi Tokunaga,Aiko Nishi,Mikako Tasaki,Seon-Kap Hwang,Thomas W. Okita,Nanae Kaneko,Naoko Fujita,Mayumi Yoshida,Yuko Hosaka,Aya Sato,Yoshinori Utsumi,Takashi Ohdan,Yasunori Nakamura +14 more
TL;DR: It is suggested thatPho1 plays a crucial role in starch biosynthesis in rice endosperm at low temperatures and that one or more other factors can complement the function of Pho1 at high temperatures.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of pullulanase (PUL)-deficient mutants of rice (Oryza sativa L.) and the function of PUL on starch biosynthesis in the developing rice endosperm
Naoko Fujita,Yoshiko Toyosawa,Yoshinori Utsumi,Toshiyuki Higuchi,Isao Hanashiro,Akira Ikegami,Sayuri Akuzawa,Mayumi Yoshida,Akiko Mori,Kotaro Inomata,Rumiko Itoh,Akio Miyao,Hirohiko Hirochika,Hikaru Satoh,Yasunori Nakamura +14 more
TL;DR: The reduction of PUL activity had no pleiotropic effects on the other enzymes involved in starch biosynthesis and its deficiency has a much smaller effect on the synthesis of amylopectin than ISA1 deficiency and the variation of the sug1 phenotype is not significantly dependent on the PUL activities.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of the Reactions of Starch Branching Enzymes from Rice Endosperm
Yasunori Nakamura,Yoshinori Utsumi,Takayuki Sawada,Satomi Aihara,Chikako Utsumi,Mayumi Yoshida,Shinichi Kitamura +6 more
TL;DR: The comprehensive in vitro studies revealed different enzymatic characteristics of the three BE isozymes and give a new insight into the distinct roles of individual BE iszymes in amylopectin biosynthesis in the endosperm.
Journal ArticleDOI
Complementation of sugary-1 Phenotype in Rice Endosperm with the Wheat Isoamylase1 Gene Supports a Direct Role for Isoamylase1 in Amylopectin Biosynthesis
Akiko Kubo,Sadequr Rahman,Yoshinori Utsumi,Yoshinori Utsumi,Zhongyi Li,Yasuhiko Mukai,Maki Yamamoto,Masashi Ugaki,Kyuya Harada,Hikaru Satoh,Christine Konik-Rose,Matthew K. Morell,Yasunori Nakamura,Yasunori Nakamura +13 more
TL;DR: Small but significant differences were found in the amylopectin chain-length distribution, gelatinization temperatures, and A-type x-ray diffraction patterns of the starches from lines expressing TaISA1 when compared with wild-type rice starch, although in the first two parameters, the effect was proportional to the expression level of TaISA.
