Prospective Cohort Study of Transarterial Chemoembolization for Unresectable Hepatocellular Carcinoma in 8510 Patients

TL;DR: TACE showed safe therapeutic modality with a 5-year survival of 26% for unresectable HCC patients and both the degree of liver damage and the tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) system proposed by the Liver Cancer Study Group of Japan demonstrated good stratification of survivals.
Journal ArticleDOI

Results of surgical and nonsurgical treatment for small-sized hepatocellular carcinomas: A retrospective and nationwide survey in Japan

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reviewed the standard results from each treatment based on an extensive survey and found that percutaneous ethanol injection (PEI), hepatic resection (HX), and transcatheter arterial embolization (TCAE) have all been used in the treatment of patients with small-sized hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs).

Genome-wide Analysis of Gene Expression in Human Hepatocellular Carcinomas Using cDNA Microarray: Identification of Genes Involved in Viral Carcinogenesis and Tumor Progression

TL;DR: Examination of expression profiles of 20 primary HCCs and their corresponding noncancerous tissues by means of cDNA microarrays identified a number of genes associated with malignant histological type or invasive phenotype that will make it possible to define the nature of individual tumors.
