Investigating users' perspectives on e-learning

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to investigate human motivations affecting an adoption decision for smartphone among medical doctors and nurses.Design/methodology/approach – This study investigates smartphone users' perception based on users' perceived adoption under the self‐efficacy, technology acceptance model (TAM) and innovation attributes leading to an adoption attitude under innovation diffusion theory by providing research constructs for the domain of medical doctors and nurses, testing them with reliability and validity, and demonstrating their distinctiveness with hypothesis testing.Findings – The results indicate that behavioral intention to use was largely influenced by perceived usefulness (PU) and attitude toward using smartphone. Food traceability as an integral part of logistics management in food and agricultural supply chain

A meta-analysis of mobile commerce adoption and the moderating effect of culture

Internet of things (IoT) is a promising technology which provides efficient and reliable solutions towards the modernization of several domains. IoT based solutions are being developed to automatically maintain and monitor agricultural farms with minimal human involvement. The article presents many aspects of technologies involved in the domain of IoT in agriculture. It explains the major components of IoT based smart farming. A rigorous discussion on network technologies used in IoT based agriculture has been presented, that involves network architecture and layers, network topologies used, and protocols. Furthermore, the connection of IoT based agriculture systems with relevant technologies including cloud computing, big data storage and analytics has also been presented. In addition, security issues in IoT agriculture have been highlighted. A list of smart phone based and sensor based applications developed for different aspects of farm management has also been presented. Lastly, the regulations and policies made by several countries to standardize IoT based agriculture have been presented along with few available success stories. In the end, some open research issues and challenges in IoT agriculture field have been presented.

Consumers' perceptions, purchase intention, and willingness to pay a premium price for safe vegetables: A case study of Beijing, China

Fish disease diagnosis is a complicated process and requires high level of expertise. Any attempt of developing a web-based system dealing with disease diagnosis has to overcome various difficulties. This paper describes a Chinese National Funded Research Project (863 project) aiming to develop a web-based intelligent diagnosis system for fish diseases. The paper explains the need for a web-based expert system, the fish diagnosis process and the difficulties involved in developing the system. The system structure and its components, such as database, knowledge base and image base and their functions are described. The system has over 300 rules and 400 images and graphics for different types of diseases and symptoms. It can diagnose 126 types of diseases amongst nine species of primary freshwater fishes. The system has been tested and is now in pilot use by fish farmers in the North China region. Some issues on developing web-based expert systems from the experience gained from the research are discussed.
