TL;DR: In this article, the second order hyperfine interaction within the 4I ground multiplet has been corrected using the atomic beam magnetic resonance method and the corrected constants are the following:A=800.583645 (6)MHz,C′=−1.504 (37)kHz,B′ =−1668.148 (16) kHz.
Abstract: Using the atomic beam magnetic resonance method several hyperfine transitions in the ground state of165Ho were measured at magnetic fields near zero Oe. Including a hexadecapole interaction constantD a perfect fit of the seven hyperfine separations was possible giving the following results:A′=800.583645 (6)MHz,C′=−1.504 (37)kHzB′=−1668.00527 (33)MHz,D′=−0.137 (14)kHz. These interaction constants have been corrected for second order hyperfine interaction within the4I ground multiplet. The corrected constants are the following:A=800.583173 (36)MHz,C=−0.249 (140)kHzB=−1668.078 70 (330) MHz,D=−0.148 (16) kHz. Using a value for 〈r4f/−5〉Ho of Fraga a nuclear hexadecapole moment can be calculated:Π(165Ho)=0.89·10−48cm4. Because of severe uncertainties still present in the theory for calculating the electronic matrix elements this value can be only regarded as highly speculative.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors sketch a number of starting points from which to construct a theory of symbolically generalized media of communication, i.e., a binary coding of specific preferences.
Abstract: Abstract In addition to and in connection with analyses from both systems theory and evolution theory, the theory of society needs a third footing, viz, a theory of symbolically generalized media of communication. The present paper attempts to sketch a number of starting points from which to construct a theory of this kind. Its fundamental problem is to be found in the transmission of accomplished selective effects. This problem may be solved by way of a binary coding of specific preferences. Transmission is not problematical, except in particular situations, for which special codes of very different kinds have been elaborated. Truth, love, property/money, and power/law are the main meaning structures in relation to which codes have been formed that are proven evolutionary successful. These codes are compared to one another with respect to such general properties as their symbolical structures, their environmental relationships, and the conditions for increasing their efficiency.

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the integral group ring Z G of a finite group G contains idempotent two-sided ideals if and only if G is not solvable.
Abstract: Several authors have considered the question, when the integral group ring Z G of a finite group G contains idempotent two-sided ideals. I f G is not solvable, then ZG has a two-sided idempotent ideal. Both Sehgal [4] and Akasaki [1, 2] have shown that for solvable G, there exist no idempotent two-sided ideals contained in the augmentation ideal. Akasaki [2, 3] has also shown for special types of groups (nilpotent groups, Frobeniusgronps, symmetric groups) that there are no two-sided idempotent ideals in ZG, not contained in the augmentation ideal. We shall show here -using a result of Fong and Swan [5], that ZG has an idempotent two-sided ideal if and only if G is not solvable.

TL;DR: In this paper, the statistical bootstrap model for single particle spectra in e + e − annihilation was presented and the distribution ( ω / σ tot · E ) ( dσ / p 2 d p ) was found to become, for E ⩾ 3 GeV, a function only of the secondary energy ω, independent of the incident e + d − energy E.

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the equation of state of an ideal relativistic gas, as applied in the hydrodynamical model, leads not only to deviations from scaling in longitudinal rapidity distributions, but also to an average transverse momentum increasing asymptotically as a power of the incident energy.

TL;DR: In this paper, the invariant phase space model was used to predict the p p annihilation data and the main features observed in e+e− annihilation experiments and showed that at present energies, phase space effects are dominant in both e + e − and p p − annihilation processes.

TL;DR: In this paper, the chain store game is described as a simple game where the actual behavior of well informed players cannot be expected to agree with the clear results of game theoretical reasoning.
Abstract: It is the purpose of this paper to present the example of a simple game in extensive form where the actual behavior of well informed players cannot be expected to agree with the clear results of game theoretical reasoning. A story about a fictitious chain store and its potential competitors is a convenient way to describe the game. This expositionary device should not be misunderstood as a model of a real situation. In view of the story the game will be called "the chain store game". The disturbing disagreement between plausible game behavior and game theoretical reasoning constitutes the "chain store paradox". The chain store paradox throws new light on the well known difficulties which arise in connection with the finite supergame of prisoners' dilemma game. A limited rationality approach seems to be needed in order to explain human strategic behavior. An attempt shall be made to discuss the possibility of a "tree-level theory of decision making" as an explanation of discrepancies between game theoretic analysis and human behavior.

TL;DR: The concept of grouping plays a fundamental role in J. Piaget's psychology of intelligence as well as in the pedagogy of the operative method as discussed by the authors, where a grouping can shortly be described as a set with a binary relation (simple relational system) whose reflexive transitive hull is a lattice.
Abstract: Summary The concept of grouping plays a fundamental role in J. Piaget's psychology of intelligence as well as in the pedagogy of the operative method. Based on a mathematically sound explication of Piaget's ideas, given by E. Wittmann, this paper presents a mathematical analysis of the grouping concept and of some of its pedagogically relevant models. A grouping can shortly be described as a set with a binary relation (simple relational system) whose reflexive transitive hull is a lattice. Among the models is Papy's minicomputer with respect to playing up and down the checkers on the minicomputer. ∗ The paper is based on a talk given at the International Conference in Knokke, Belgium, 1973.

TL;DR: In this article, it is shown that for games with perfect recall, the agent normal form is an adequate representation of games with imperfect recall and that a subgame perfect equilibrium point may not be perfect.
Abstract: The concept of a perfect equilibrium point has been introduced in order to exclude the possibility that disequilibrium behavior is prescribed on unreached subgames. (Selten 1965 and 1973). Unfortunately this definition of perfectness does not remove all difficulties which may arise with respect to unreached parts of the game. It is necessary to reexamine the problem of defining a satisfactory non-cooperative equilibrium concept for games in extensive form. Therefore a new concept of a perfect equilibrium point will be introduced in this paper. In retrospect the earlier use of the word "perfect" was premature. Therefore a perfect equilibrium point in the old Sense will be called "subgame perfect". The new definition of perfectness has the property that a perfect equilibrium point is always subgame perfect but a subgame perfect equilibrium point may not be perfect. It will be shown that every finite extensive game with perfect recall has at least one perfect equilibrium point. Since subgame perfectness cannot be detected in the normal form, it is clear that for the purpose of the investigation of the problem of perfectness, the normal form is an inadequate representation of the extensive form. It will be convenient to introduce an "agent normal form" as a more adequate representation of games with perfect recall.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors consider a class of oligopolistic games where each firm has a technology with nondecreasing returns to scale and has less than full information about the economy's structure and current state.
Abstract: In this chapter we consider a class of oligopolistic economies (games) in which each firm has a technology with nondecreasing returns to scale and has less than full information about the economy’s structure and current state. We describe a state of such an economy wherein (1) each firm does not want to change his action since, given his observations and his general knowledge of the economy, he finds that if he did change, then credible responses of other firms would make him regret doing so; and (2) markets are cleared so that the firms’ actions are, in fact, mutually consistent and feasible. In the following chapter we study the existence of such an economic state.
