Abstract: Processes for preparing a carbon black product having an organic group attached to the carbon black. In one process at least one diazonium salt reacts with a carbon black in the absence of an externally applied electric current sufficient to reduce the diazonium salt. In another process at least one diazonium salt reacts with a carbon black in a protic reaction medium. Carbon black products which may be prepared according to process of the invention are described as well as uses of such carbon black products in plastic compositions, rubber compositions, paper compositions, and textile compositions.

The invention also provides an insulated glazing system comprising: (a) a first U-shaped element, (b) a second U-shaped element, the first and second elements being disposed to define a cavity therebetween, and (c) an insulating panel disposed within the cavity. The insulated glazing system can further comprise hydrophobic aerogel particles disposed within the internal channel of the insulating panel. The insulating panel of the glazing system also can be the same as the translucent glazing panel described herein.

The method includes applying a heating or cooling medium or energy to one surface of the assembly and acquiring a graphic recording of a corresponding temperature change on the opposing surface of the assembly using an imaging device. Also described is a method of mathematically analyzing the pixel data recorded in each frame to produce an integrated normalized temperature map that represents the bond integrity of the assembly.

The aerosol generation involves preparation of a high quality aerosol, with a narrow droplet size distribution, with close control over droplet size and with a high droplet loading suitable for commercial applications.

An interlayer can optionally be disposed between the target grade plate and the backing plate member before bonding. A bond quality test sample can be produced by the method. The sputtering target assemblies, the bonded preform, and the bond quality test sample are further described.

The method involves high impact milling a starting powder in a fluid medium and optionally a milling media using a high energy mill. The methods of the present invention have the ability to reduce DC leakage and/or increase capacitance capabilities of valve metal powders when formed into capacitor anodes. The methods of present invention further reduce the milling time necessary to form high surface area valve metal powders and leads to reducing contaminant levels in the valve metal powders. The process is particularly well-suited for forming metal flakes, such as tantalum or niobium flakes, of high purity.
