Abstract: One specific problem of control, namely, system deadlock that can arise in an unmanned flexible manufacturing system (FMS) is addressed, and some related work in the deadlocking of computer systems is described. A formal model for manufacturing system deadlock detection is presented. Necessary and sufficient conditions for manufacturing system deadlock based on actual manufacturing-system characteristics are defined along with a set of bounds for searching for deadlocks. An implementation approach is also presented. >

TL;DR: In this paper, two universal active current filters with low passive sensitivities were proposed to obtain second-order lowpass, bandpass, highpass, notch and allpass current signals by adjusting the magnitudes of a grounded resistor and a grounded capacitor provided that another resistor is separable.
Abstract: Two novel universal active current filters, one of which has multiple outputs and the other of which has a single output and high output impedance, employing a single negative second-generation current conveyor, three position-fixed capacitors and four/five position-fixed resistors are proposed. The proposed networks with the advantages of low passive sensitivities can obtain second-order lowpass, bandpass, highpass, notch and allpass current signals by adjusting the magnitudes of a grounded resistor and a grounded capacitor provided that another resistor is separable. The resonance angular frequency and quality factor are insensitive to the current tracking error of the nonideal CCII–.

Abstract: A current mode second-order allpass notch and bandpass filter using a single CCII, two grounded capacitors and four resistors is proposed. The allpass and notch output current signals, taken out through port z of a CCII and having high output impedance, can be obtained by tuning a resistor in the proposed network. The resonance angular frequency and quality factor of the new network have the advantages of low passive sensitivities and are insensitive to the current tracking error of the nonideal CCII.

TL;DR: In this paper, a novel method to prepare polymer metallized films was found by using polymer metal chelate films treated with wetted metal plates (or metal powders), which was called the retroplating-out method.
Abstract: A novel method to prepare polymer metallized films was found by using polymer metal chelate films treated with wetted metal plates (or metal powders). The polymer metal chelate films were prepared by metal salts mixed with the polymers containing a functional group, such as poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), polyamide, polyacrylamide (PAAm), and polyurethane (PU). This novel method is called the retroplating-out method. Polymer metallized films exhibited low surface resistivity around 10−1 Ω/cm2 by using this novel method. The surfaces of these films were shown to be metallized by means of X-ray analysis. The conduction mechanism was verified reasonably well by using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and UV-visible absorption data.

TL;DR: A universal active filter with current gain using operational transconductance amplifiers is presented and offers independent control of ω0 Q and current gain with separate transconductances.
Abstract: Roberts and Sedra (1989) proposed that the circuits based on current amplifiers operate at higher signal bandwidths, with greater linearity, and have larger dynamic range than their voltage-based circuit counterparts. A universal active filter with current gain using operational transconductance amplifiers is presented. The circuit offers independent control of ω0 Q and current gain with separate transconductances; uses grounded capacitors and is therefore ideal for integration; is constructed using seven OTAs, two grounded capacitors, and one grounded resistor; and can be used for a switched-capacitor filter simply by replacing the grounded resistor with a grounded switched capacitor.

TL;DR: In this article, the reduction of polyamide metal chelates with reducing agents was investigated, and the surfaces of these films were proved to be metallized by means of ESCA analysis.
Abstract: New metallized films were obtained by the reduction of polyamide metal chelate films with reducing agents. Polyamide metal chelates films exhibited excellent surface resistivity around 10°–101 Ω/cm2 when treated with sodium borohydride aqueous solutions. Aqueous solutions of polyamide–formic acid with metal salts, and films prepared from those solutions, were analyzed by UV-visible and IR spectroscopy, respectively, in order to investigate and identify the structure of the polyamide metal chelates. Factors that include kinds and concentrations of metal salts, kinds and concentrations of reducing agents, and reduction time, which may affect the conductivity of metallized films, were investigated. The surfaces of these films were treated with sodium borohydride aqueous solution to form a definite metallic luster appearance. The surfaces of these conductive films were proved to be metallized, by means of ESCA analysis. The strongly adhered metal on the films was believed to be responsible for the improvement in electrical conductivity. The mechanical properties and scanning electron microscope (SEM) observations were also studied.

Abstract: The histologic procedure technique was used to evaluate the bone fracture healing rate of manually fractured fibulae after they were submitted to several different types of capacitively-coupled electric field stimulation, classified depending on the parameters of peak-to-peak voltage, frequency and duration. Using a completely randomized design, 30 New Zealand male rabbits were divided into six different groups: a control group, a 60 kHz and 220 mVp-p sine wave group as proposed by Brighton in 1985, and four special parameters of pulse wave groups. After comparing these different types of electrical stimulation, the group with the parameters of a pulse train repetition frequency of 15 Hz, a pulse frequency of 10 kHz and 5 V peak-to-peak intensity experienced the same enhancement of bone fracture healing as the group with the parameters suggested by Brighton in 1985.

TL;DR: In this paper, a single nozzle in a two-dimensional gas-fluidized bed with Group B particles was investigated by means of visual observation and spectral analysis of pressure fluctuations in the grid region.
Abstract: Bubbling, jetting and spouting as gas discharge modes at a single nozzle in a two-dimensional gas-fluidized bed with Group B particles were investigated by means of visual observation and spectral analysis of pressure fluctuations in the grid region. A bubble plume was observed with a frequency of bubble formation in the range 2–7 Hz. Empirical equations predicting the transitions of gas discharge modes were obtained. The flow regimes of gas discharge modes were mapped by using two parameters, the static bed height-to-nozzle diameter ratio and a modified two-phase Froude number.

Almost half of the synthesized polymers exhibit thermotropic liquid crystalline properties which are in the nematic phase since threaded and/or Schlieren textures are observed under polarizing microscope. TL;DR: The decision problem of the solvability of diophantine equations with parameters in I is proved to be co-NP-complete, however, the decision problems of thesolvability in all algebraic integer rings is in P.
Abstract: Let I be an algebraic integer ring. The decision problem of the solvability of diophantine equations with parameters in I is proved to be co-NP-complete. However, the decision problem of the solvability of diophantine equations with parameters in all algebraic integer rings is in P. Let $\varphi (x.y)$ be a quantifier-free arithmetical formula in conjunctive normal form or disjunctive normal form. The decision problem of the sentences of the form $\exists x\forall y\varphi (x,y)$, true in I, is NP-complete. Then the decision problem of the sentences of the form $\forall x\exists y\varphi (x,y)$, true in I, is co-NP-complete, whereas the decision problem of the sentences of the form $\forall x\exists y\varphi (x,y)$, true in all algebraic integer rings, is in P. Some other related decision problems are also proven to be in P.

Abstract: In this note, two different definitions of object-oriented programming, whether a class is equivalent to a type or not, will be presented. Then the relative merits of the two definitions, regarding encapsulation of objects, type checking, genericity, and inheritance of objects, will be discussed. In particular, a C++ sample program will be given to illustrate that the encapsulation of objects may be violated.

Abstract: Pressure drops across a perforated-plate distributor, with and without a bed present, were investigated and a disagreement was found. A “real minimum uniform fluidization velocity,” Urmu f, was defined at which the distributor pressure drop was consistent with that in an empty bed. An approach for modifying the orifice equation when the gas velocity was smaller than Urmu f was proposed.

TL;DR: The crystal and molecular structures of three sydnone derivatives are reported in this paper, and the structure has been refined to a final value of 0.0581 for the conventional R-factor based on 2222 independent observed intensities.
Abstract: The crystal and molecular structures of three sydnone derivatives are reported. The compound 3-cyclohexylsydnone crystallizes in space group C2/c of the monoclinic system with sixteen molecules in a cell of dimensions a = 19.326 (3), b = 9.471 (2), c = 20.005 (4)A, β = 106.85(1)°. The structure has been refined to a final value of 0.0581 for the conventional R-factor based on 2222 independent observed intensities. Form I of 3-(3-pyridyl)sydnone crystallizes in space group P2/n of the monoclinic system with eight molecules in a cell of dimensions a = 7.317(2), b = 9.283 (2), c = 20.891 (6) A, β = 99.61(2)°. The structure has been refined to a final value of 0.0514 for the conventional R-factor based on 1208 independent observed intensities. Form II of 3-(3-pyridyl)sydnone crystallizes in space group P21/c of the monoclinic system with eight molecules in a cell of dimensions a=9.073 (2), b = 22.267 (5). c = 7.494(2)A, β = 112.15 (2)°. The structure has been refined to a final value of 0.0462 for the conventional R-factor based on 1330 independent observed intensities. Each of the three structures contains two crystallographically independent molecules in the cell. In the case of 3-cyclohexylsydnone, one of the independent molecules exhibits disorder around the exocyclic bond at N(3). A comparison of bond lengths indicates that the (electron donating) cyclohexyl group brings about enhanced electron density in the N(3)-C(4) bond, and possibly in the N(3)-N(2) bond. All three structures studied here exhibit intermolecular hydrogen bonding involving C(4)-H(4)…O(6) interactions. Although there are no stacking interactions in the cyclohexyl derivative, there is evidence for such interactions in the 3-pyridyl derivatives.

Abstract: The images of corneal endothelium cells obtained from specular microscopes are blurred and obscure. We use adaptive local process and lowpass filter to enhance the contrast of the images and to reduce the background noise. A special matched filter is designed to detect the edges of cell borders. Then by applying thinning technique and line tracing rules, the borders of endothelium cells can be correctly identified. This algorithm provides the quantitative informations of cell size, density, and shape which are concerning the general status, viability, and functional reserve of this important cell layer.

Abstract: The malfunction of a perforated-plate distributor caused by blockage in a 0·3 m gas-fluidized bed was investigated in terms of pressure fluctuations. A pneumatic probe was used to detect the radial pressure distribution in the bed. The variation of pressure fluctuations in the bed was found to be in relationship to the perforated plate design and the static bed height while the plate was partially blocked. The bed pressure drop ratio was shown to be a clear indicator of plate blockage.

TL;DR: A full duplex/multiplex security communication system with single radio carrier frequency is described, which utilizes time compression and expansion techniques and uses the idea of time slot allocation for multiplexing.
Abstract: A full duplex/multiplex security communication system with single radio carrier frequency is described. Totally different from traditional simplex or double-frequency-full-duplex radio techniques, this novel communication system utilizes time compression and expansion techniques and uses the idea of time slot allocation for multiplexing. By this scheme, full-duplex/multiplex communication system can be established on a single carrier frequency. With conventional radio techniques, it will be quite complicated to establish a full triplex or quadruplex communication system. With the proposed scheme, it is not difficult to implement this kind of system. The intrinsic security characteristic of this system is attractive. The signal compression algorithms provide various levels of security. Segmenting time slots and synchronizing signals provide another level of complexity. >

TL;DR: An adaptive IIR (infinite impulse response) filter in the frequency domain is proposed that saves much more adaptation time than cascaded IIR ALEs (adaptive line enhancers), and also assures the detection of each sinusoid no matter what the initial weight values are.
Abstract: An adaptive IIR (infinite impulse response) filter in the frequency domain is proposed. This structure may detect every incoming noisy sinusoid in a relatively short period of time. It can also be constructed as a multiple notch filter. Simulation shows that its performance is good enough, even though the desired signal and jammer appear at both the reference and the primary inputs. This result can be applied to improve the performance of a bugging device. The proposed structure saves much more adaptation time than cascaded IIR ALEs (adaptive line enhancers), and also assures the detection of each sinusoid no matter what the initial weight values are. >
