TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a survey of cobalt resources in Europe and evaluate the potential for additional discoveries, based on published information and survey of national mineral resource agencies, 509 cobalt-bearing deposits and occurrences have been identified in 25 countries in Europe.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors aim at quantifying effects of uncertain hydraulic reservoir properties on deep saline aquifers, which have large capacity for geological CO(2) storage, but are generally not as well characterized as petroleum reservoirs.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented the first continuous carbon isotope stratigraphy from the Lower-Middle Ordovician "orthoceratite limestone" of Oland, Sweden.
Abstract: Based on the Tingskullen drillcore, we present the first continuous carbon isotope stratigraphy from the Lower–Middle Ordovician “orthoceratite limestone” of Oland, Sweden. The extremely condensed Tremadocian and Floian stages include large gaps as well as the Ceratopyge Regressive Event and the widespread Evae transgression accompanied by prominent shifts in the δ 13C record. The Dapingian and Darriwilian stages are characterised by low sedimentation rates and a relatively complete sedimentary record. A total of 99 whole-rock samples were analysed for carbon isotope geochemistry from the Ordovician part of the succession (46 m thick). The most striking anomaly detected is the middle Darriwilian isotope carbon excursion (MDICE) that appears unusually well developed and complete for the region, and thus forms an important proxy for intercontinental correlation of the succession.

TL;DR: An apparatus for the extraction of carbon dioxide from 100 liters of sea-water using carbonate-free sodium hydroxide solution as absorbant liquid is described in this article, where a test series of 6 sea water samples is presented, on which natural C14 determinations are made and the results obtained are briefly discussed in relation to other age measurements on similar waters.
Abstract: An apparatus for the extraction of carbon dioxide from 100 liters of sea-water using carbonate-free sodium hydroxide solution as absorbant liquid and its performance is described. A test series of 6 sea water samples is presented, on which natural C14 determinations are made and the results obtained are briefly discussed in relation to other age measurements on similar waters. The correlation between salinity and C14 activity is shown. DOI: 10.1111/j.2153-3490.1959.tb00006.x

TL;DR: The orogenic wedge of the central Scandinavian Caledonides is built up of a stack of nappes, which are divided here into three mechanically distinct tiers: A: Lower Allochthon with exclusively Scandian (Middle to Late Silurian) structures and metamorphism as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: The orogenic wedge of the central Scandinavian Caledonides - overlying the Baltic Shield without a substantial foreland basin - is built up of a stack of nappes, which are divided here into three mechanically distinct tiers: A: Lower Allochthon with exclusively Scandian (Middle to Late Silurian) structures and metamorphism, B: Middle Allochthon and Seve units of Upper Allochthon with traces of Finnmarkian (Early Ordovician) events, and C: overlying exotic terranes (Koli units of Upper Allochthon, Uppermost Allochthon). Detailed structural work documented shear criteria at the tier B-C (Seve-Koli) boundary, which consistently indicate a down-dip, top-to-the-west movement at a regional scale and immediately after peak PT conditions (c. Late Wenlockian). Subsequently, the Seve-Koli boundary was deformed by regional folds, caused by the stacking of thrust systems in the underlying Lower Allochthon. Due to lithology and early cooling, the tier B of the Caledonian orogenic wedge is dominated by strong ...
