TL;DR: The authors examined the sensitivity of second language learners to differences in reading skill among advanced L2 learners using the reading span test and found that subjects with larger working memory capacities scored higher on measures of reading skill, in contrast with the lack of strong correlations between measures of passive short-term storage and the same reading measures.
Abstract: Working memory capacity refers to the ability to store and process information simultaneously in real time and has been shown to correlate highly with first language (L1) reading skill. This study examines the sensitivity of second language (L2) working memory capacity to differences in reading skill among advanced L2 learners. The index of working memory capacity used was the reading span test (Daneman & Carpenter, 1980). Subjects with larger working memory capacities scored higher on measures of reading skill, in contrast with the lack of strong correlations between measures of passive short-term storage (memory for strings of random words or digits) and the same reading measures. This result is consistent with an interpretation of the reading span test as an index of working memory capacity, in which capacity is defined functionally in terms of a trade-off between active processing and storage. Issues involved in investigating working memory capacity are discussed and the role of capacity limitations in models of L2 comprehension is considered.

TL;DR: An overview of the current state of RFID applications in different industries and its impact on business operations is provided and extensive literature survey is provided to develop a framework for future research areas in this field.
Abstract: Radio frequency identification (RFID) is an emerging technology that is increasingly being used in supply chain management RFID technology plays an important role in supporting logistics and supply chain processes because of their ability to identify, trace and track information throughout the supply chain The technology can provide suppliers, manufacturers, distributors and retailers precise real time information about the products This accurate knowledge of the inventory would result in lower labor cost, simplified business processes and improved supply chain efficiency If properly used, it has the potential to cut ordering lead time and cost on inventory control, increase the accuracy of inventory information, help avoid stockouts and boost the number of inventory turns In this paper, we provide an overview of the current state of RFID applications in different industries and its impact on business operations We provide extensive literature survey and develop a framework for future research areas in this field

TL;DR: Li et al. as discussed by the authors examined the relationship between human capital, FDI and pollution emissions in China and found that the impact of FDI on pollution emission is highly dependent on the level of human capital.
Abstract: By using provincial socioeconomic and environmental data, this paper examines the relationship between human capital, FDI and pollution emissions in China. The result shows the impact of FDI on pollution emission is highly dependent on the level of human capital. FDI is negatively associated with pollution emissions in provinces with the higher levels of human capital, whereas FDI is positively related to pollution emissions in provinces with the lower levels of human capital. This suggests that pollution haven hypothesis (PHH) holds only in those provinces with low human capital. This study also finds that the sign of FDI’s effect on each pollutant’ emission requires the different threshold level of human capital, which may help to reconcile the current conflicting PHH empirical evidences partially.
