TL;DR: A novel localization protocol for VASNET is proposed which gains benefit of sensor nodes and is totally GPS free and observed that by varying the parameters like number of Road Side Sensors, transmission ranges and rate of well-working sensors, the exact location of a vehicle is computed in 93% cases.
Abstract: Vehicle Ad Hoc Network (VANET) is the communication between the vehicles on the road. VANET and Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) fusion is termed as Vehicular Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks (VASNET). In VSANET, each vehicle carries an intelligent node, which senses the real phenomena and collects the required data. As the sensor nodes are installed on the vehicles, these are prone to high mobility and hence, new protocols need to be designed. Implementation of VSANET involves a lot of challenges such as, frequency allocation, standards for physical and link layers, routing, localization and security issues. In most of the proposed localization algorithms for VSANET, there is good amount of dependency on the other technologies such as Global Positioning System (GPS), which has major problems such as system not available continuously, non-availability in tunnel and not being robust enough. Therefore, GPS is not a reliable solution. In this paper, we delve further with GPS technology and discuss some of the localization algorithms. Here, we propose a novel localization protocol for VASNET which gains benefit of sensor nodes and is totally GPS free. Using GloMoSim simulator the protocol has been simulated and we observed that by varying the parameters like number of Road Side Sensors (RSS), transmission ranges and rate of well-working sensors, the exact location of a vehicle is computed in 93% cases. TL;DR: Simulation results of the proposed FFT shows that the comprehensive feature indices takes less time with more accuracy for identification of sources of disturbance for voltage sag under different types of symmetrical and unsymmetrical fault conditions than the conventional identification features indices.
Abstract: Voltage quality effect is the major power quality problem in power system network which affects the customer load operation in distribution systems. Voltage quality problem exists in terms of sags and swells whose detection is a major issue in power system network. Redundancy identification method (conventional method) has low accuracy due to the co-relativity between voltage sag and sag disturbances and hence, detection of existence of sag, identifying its causes and its mitigation is a major problem in power network. Most of the voltage quality problems in distribution networks occur due to non identification of type of fault or sag in a particular phase and is a major challenge. Several algorithms are existing for identification of sag and swell in literature. This work is mainly focuses on simple sag identification in power system network using Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT). The proposed FFT is modeled to detect the fault, identify the type and depth of the fault. A MATLAB/SIMULINK model is developed for testing the various fault conditions. Simulation results of the proposed method shows that the comprehensive feature indices takes less time with more accuracy for identification of sources of disturbance for voltage sag under different types of symmetrical and unsymmetrical fault conditions than the conventional identification features indices.
