TL;DR: The various imaging features and signs that help to identify and characterize a nerve sheath tumor are, distribution of the tumor along a major nerve, an entering or exiting nerve sign, target sign, a fascicular sign and a split-fat sign.
Abstract: Peripheral nerve sheath tumors are categorized into benign and malignant forms, comprising of neurofibroma and schwannoma in the benign category and malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors in the malignant category. Magnetic resonance imaging plays an important role in the diagnosis of these lesions. The various imaging features and signs that help to identify and characterize a nerve sheath tumor are, distribution of the tumor along a major nerve, an entering or exiting nerve sign, target sign, a fascicular sign and a split-fat sign.

TL;DR: The need for better educational measures at undergraduate level is highlighted in order to shape a positive attitude of the health care providers towards psychiatry, which is essential for ensuring better care for patients as well as reduction of stigma surrounding psychiatric disorders.
Abstract: Context: Globally, psychiatry as a subject, psychiatrists as professionals, and patients with psychiatric disorders are subjected to cultural stereotypes and negative attitude by the general population. What is of alarming concern is that these prejudices exist within the medical community as well. Aims: This study aims at evaluating the perception, knowledge, and attitude toward psychiatric disorders, therapeutic modalities used in psychiatry, psychiatry as a subject and psychiatrists as professionals among undergraduate medical students in Karnataka. Settings and Design: This is a descriptive, cross-sectional type of study conducted in three medical colleges located in Karnataka. Materials and Methods: A sample of 500 students from all three professional phases of MBBS was selected using purposive sampling. A semistructured prevalidated questionnaire was used to assess the perception, knowledge, and attitude of undergraduate medical students toward psychiatric disorders and psychiatry. Statistical Analysis: Data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences, version 16.0. Results: The undergraduate medical student population had significant shortcomings in knowledge and attitude pertaining to psychiatric disorders, more glaring in the initial years of education. A comparatively positive opinion was obtained regarding psychiatry as a subject and psychiatrists as professionals, which may reflect the changing trends and concepts, both in society and medical community. Conclusion: This study highlights the need for better educational measures at undergraduate level in order to shape a positive attitude of the health care providers towards psychiatry, which is essential for ensuring better care for patients as well as reduction of stigma surrounding psychiatric disorders.

TL;DR: Perichondritis can be divided into two groups, depending on cartilage loss and on the presence or absence of malignant otitis externa, and the treatment used and the residual deformity that will ensue are entirely dependent on the stage of disease.
Abstract: Objective: To conduct a study of patients presenting with perichondritis of the auricle and to analyse the possible aetiological factors responsible, the bacteriological agents involved, the treatment modalities and the complications of such infections.Setting: Academic department of otolaryngology.Design: A retrospective clinical study of patients treated over a five-year period.Participants: Sixty-one patients with clinically proven perichondritis of the auricle, with or without diabetes mellitus (i.e. malignant otitis externa). Results: Based on the severity of the disease, otherwise uncomplicated patients were assigned to group A and divided into three cohorts. Patients with perichondritis secondary to malignant otitis externa were analysed separately as group B. Men formed the majority of the patients and most were young (16–35 years). Trauma was the main cause (46 per cent) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa the most common micro-organism isolated. The condition was managed conservatively with antibiotics alone in 19 patients (31 per cent) and these cases had no residual deformity at follow up (group A, stage one). Incision and drainage was performed in a further 19 patients (31 per cent), resulting in minor residual deformity in one half (group A, stage two). Debridement was performed in 17 patients, and these patients had either gross (29 per cent) or minor residual deformity (71 per cent; group A, stage three). Six patients with perichondritis secondary to malignant otitis externa were managed by wound debridement via a post-auricular approach; all had minor residual deformities. Conclusions: Perichondritis can be divided into two groups, depending on cartilage loss and on the presence or absence of malignant otitis externa. The treatment used and the residual deformity that will ensue are entirely dependent on the stage of disease.

TL;DR: This study examines the validity of Camper's plane as a guide to determine the occlusal plane in edentulous subjects and identifies four subdivisions based on length and maxillomandibular angle.
Abstract: This study examines the validity of Camper's plane as a guide to determine the occlusal plane in edentulous subjects. Based on the data collected from the cephalometric tracings of 40 dentulous and edentulous patients and with the use of the significant correlations of the variables of the maxillomandibular space established from the dentulous group, the dentulous and edentulous groups were classified into four subdivisions based on length and maxillomandibular angle. The occlusal plane/maxillary plane angles and the occlusal plane/mandibular plane angles were then compared to check for similarities in the two groups.
