TL;DR: For situations in which the assumption of multinormally distributed variables is justified, information criteria are found to be highly appropriate for model selection, outperforming cross-validation methods in several respects.
Abstract: Many applications of causal modeling in marketing involve selection among several competing causal models. The author investigates whether common criteria for model selection such as cross-validati...

TL;DR: In this paper, the stator hub and blade flow in two different stators of a highly loaded single-stage axial-flow low-speed compressor were investigated, and the experimental results showed that stator K exhibits a much better hub performance than stator A.
Abstract: The paper describes an experimental investigation of the stator hub and blade flow in two different stators of a highly loaded single-stage axial-flow low-speed compressor. The first stator (A) is a conventional design with blades of rectangular planform. The second stator (K) is an unconventional, more advanced design with blades of a special planform, characterized by an aft-swept leading edge with increasing sweep angle towards hub and casing. The experimental results show that stator K exhibits a much better hub performance than stator A, finally leading to a better overall performance of stage K compared to stage A. The better hub performance of stator K is, primarily, the result of a planform effect of the newly introduced blades with an aft-swept leading edge and the aerodynamics of an aft-swept wing.Copyright © 2000 by ASME

TL;DR: In this article, an experimental investigation on stall inception in a single-stage axial-flow pump, utilizing an oil flow technique and two different photo techniques, was performed and the unsteady casing wall pressure was measured, which allowed a number of key features of the stall inception process to be identified and followed along the unstable part of the pump characteristic.
Abstract: The paper describes an experimental investigation on stall inception phenomena in a single-stage axial-flow pump, utilizing an oil flow technique and two different photo techniques Moreover, the unsteady casing wall pressure was measured Representative results are shown and discussed: the pump characteristic for two different NPSH values, selected oil flow pictures of the casing wall and the rotor blades, the wall pressure distribution at design, selected pictures of the cavitating core of the tip clearance vortex at stable and unstable operating conditions and the visualization of a cross-passage vortex as a deep stall phenomenon These results allow a number of key features of the stall inception process to be identified and to be followed along the unstable part of the pump characteristic

Abstract: The results of an experimental study of the flow field resulting from the interaction between an impinging jet and a rotating disk are presented. The resulting flow configuration has applications in turbomachinery, for example, to intensify the local heat transfer at turbine disks. The experiments cover separate measurements of the disk-wall flow, the jet flow and interaction between the two. The flow patterns are investigated over a range of jet Reynolds numbers Rejet = 0.66-104 - 6.80-104 (based on jet diameter) and disk Reynolds numbers Redisk 3.4·105 − 6.2· 105 (based on impingement radius), achieved by varying the jet nozzle diameter, jet flow rate, rotational disk speed and the impingement radius. The measurements included the depth of jet penetration into the wall boundary layer, the travel distance of the jet against the direction of disk rotation, and the turbulent and mean velocity distribution. Another objective of this study concerns the type of flow at the impingement region (jet dominated flow or rotation dominated flow) and the conditions for the transition from one to the other. In the first part of the study, the flow structure of the jet and disk flows as well as the three-dimensional flow fields resulting from the interaction are presented.

TL;DR: In this article, solution nitriding is a controlled heat treatment of stainless steels carried out at 1100 ± 50 °C in N2 gas, which is suitable for components subjected to the flow of aggressive fluids containing suspended particles which is often encountered in chemical and process engineering.
Abstract: Solution nitriding is a controlled heat treatment of stainless steels carried out at 1100 ± 50 °C in N2 gas. Depending on the alloy content a hard martensitic or a ductile austenitic high nitrogen case of about 2 mm in depth is formed, which reduces wear by sliding, fretting, erosion and cavitation. In contrast to carbon dissolved nitrogen does not impair the resistance to superimposed corrosion, so that solution nitriding is suitable for components subjected to the flow of aggressive fluids containing suspended particles which is often encountered in chemical and process engineering.
