TL;DR: Investigating the determinants on firms' reactions toward cloud systems adoption from status quo bias perspective indicates that institutional pressures, switching benefits, and switching costs have significant influence on perceived value.
Abstract: The cloud-based environment has been viewed as an elastic alternative to hosting information systems. Although a lot of attention is paid in cloud system applications, organizations in business are still skeptical of adopting cloud framework. The purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants on firms' reactions toward cloud systems adoption from status quo bias perspective. By using cloud enterprise resource planning (ERP) as a research target, data were collected from the leading manufacturing firms in Taiwan. The results indicate that institutional pressures, switching benefits, and switching costs have significant influence on perceived value. Switching benefits and switching costs are key determinants of perceived risk. Perceived value contributes towards organizational adoption intentions, while perceived risk has significant influence on organizational resistance. The findings provide a foundation for understanding the possible determinants of cloud systems adoption as well as valuable im...

TL;DR: This paper proposes a much stronger privacy protection for an end-to-end VoIP that applies not only the Elliptic-Curve Diffie-Hellman (ECDH) algorithm for key negotiation, but also the key generation function (KGF) for changing key dynamically in a VoIP call session.

TL;DR: The data suggest that the balance between T-helper 2 cell-derived proinflammatory versus anti-inflammatory cytokines might be improved by acupuncture treatment, and cDNA microarray analysis of differential gene expression in the peripheral blood of patients with allergic rhinitis before and after acupuncture treatment is reported.
Abstract: Background: Allergic rhinitis affects approximately 30% of adults and up to 40% of children in industrialized societies. Medicines available for relief of allergic rhinitis symptoms include antihistamines, decongestants, leukotriene inhibitors, topical hormones, and corticosteroids. However, the negative side-effects of antiallergic medicines cause many patients with allergic rhinitis to choose traditional Chinese medical treatments, such as taking Chinese herbs or treatment with acupuncture. Objectives: This study assessed the effect of acupuncture for treatment of allergic rhinitis. Methods: Eighteen (18) patients with allergic rhinitis were treated with acupuncture 8 times over a 4-week period, and peripheral blood of these patients was collected at each visit for analysis of gene expression via cDNA microarray. To estimate the therapeutic effect of acupuncture objectively, patients completed the rhinoconjunctivitis quality of life questionnaire (RQLQ) before and after acupuncture therapy. Res...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed a framework to link founding team and start-up competitive advantage in the context of Taiwanese technology-based ventures, and analyzed 211 start-ups in the technology based sector and verifies the relationship between entrepreneur resources, trust, founding team partners' commitments, and start up competitive advantage.
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to develop a framework to link founding team and start‐up competitive advantage in the context of the Taiwanese technology‐based ventures.Design/methodology/approach – The paper analyzes 211 start‐ups in the technology‐based sector and verifies the relationship between entrepreneur resources, trust, founding team partners' commitments, and start‐up competitive advantage.Findings – In technology‐based start‐ups, the competitive advantage of a start‐up is determined by the founding team partners' commitments and the resources that an entrepreneur possesses.Research limitations/implications – The study is retrospective, which relies on technology‐based founding team members as the primary research subjects. Some respondents may observe the performance of their start‐ups today and then make attributions about the past to explain that performance.Practical implications – Utilization of personal networks is important in the early stage of technology‐based start‐ups; throug...
