TL;DR: The key features encompassing the physical layer, network layer and back-hauling aspects of time-domain ICIC in Rel-10 are surveyed.
Abstract: Heterogeneous networks (het-nets) - comprising of conventional macrocell base stations overlaid with femtocells, picocells and wireless relays - offer cellular operators burgeoning traffic demands through cell-splitting gains obtained by bringing users closer to their access points. However, the often random and unplanned location of these access points can cause severe near-far problems, typically solved by coordinating base-station transmissions to minimize interference. Towards this direction, the 3rd generation partnership project Long Term Evolution-Advanced (3GPP-LTE or Rel-10) standard introduces time-domain inter-cell interference coordination (ICIC) for facilitating a seamless deployment of a het-net overlay. This article surveys the key features encompassing the physical layer, network layer and back-hauling aspects of time-domain ICIC in Rel-10.

TL;DR: An information theoretic approach to conducting identification experiments to guide the design of and to evaluate a perfectly identifiable stimulus set is outlined and can be applied to other applications in need of perceptually identifiable stimulation patterns.
Abstract: As touch based input becomes more popular in mobile devices, there is an increasing need for haptic feedback on key-less input surface. Four experiments were conducted to design and evaluate identifiable emulated key-click signals using a piezoelectric actuator. Experiments I and II assessed the information transmission capacity for the amplitude, frequency, and number of cycles of raised cosine waveforms used to drive the piezo actuators under fixed- and roving-background conditions, respectively. Experiment III estimated the total information transfer for all three parameters. The results were used to reduce the number of stimulus alternatives in the key-click signal set with the goal to achieve perfect identification performance. Experiment IV verified that up to 5 to 6 identifiable key-click signals could be achieved with the experimental setup. The present study outlines an information theoretic approach to conducting identification experiments to guide the design of and to evaluate a perfectly identifiable stimulus set. The methodology can be applied to other applications in need of perceptually identifiable stimulation patterns.

Abstract: A method (600) and devices for enhancing the performance of one or more antennas (440) is provided. A control circuit (104) assesses performance of an antenna (101) in a plurality of bands, such as a receive band and a transmit band. TL;DR: In this paper, a broadband cellular network (BCN) provides a user equipment (UE) access to TVWS resources by conveying a mobile device identifier received from the UE, and a cell identifier associated with the UE's coverage area.
Abstract: A broadband cellular network (BCN) provides a user equipment (UE) access to TVWS resources. The BCN authorizes the UE to access TVWS resources by conveying a mobile device identifier received from the UE, and a cell identifier associated with the UE's coverage area, to a Federal Communications Commission (FCC)-certified Database and receiving, from the Database, and storing an FCC ID associated with the UE and a set of available TVWS resources. The BCN then conveys, to the UE via a broadband cellular technology, a channel resource information element (CRIE) that includes the cell identifier and identifies the set of available TVWS resources. Subsequently, the BCN re-authorizes the UE to access TVWS resources based on the stored FCC ID and without re-conveying the mobile device identifier to the Database. The BCN further utilizes broadband cellular technology procedures to provide a “virtual” contact verification signal (VCVS) to the UE.

TL;DR: In this article, a wireless communication device receives at least a section of a subframe from a base station in wireless communication system, which includes transmission resources multiplexed onto subcarriers of orthogonal frequency division multiplexers (OFDM) symbols.
Abstract: A wireless communication device receives at least a section of a subframe from a base station in a wireless communication system. The subframe includes transmission resources multiplexed onto subcarriers of orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) symbols. A first set of OFDM symbols includes a reference signal and at least a second set of OFDM symbols includes information other than the reference signal (e.g., channel-coded data). The wireless device determines which OFDM symbols of the subframe constitute the first set of OFDM symbols based on an identifier associated with a base station that transmitted the subframe. The wireless device may then process the reference signal from the OFDM symbols that are determined to be the first set of OFDM symbols. The wireless device may also determine which OFDM symbols of the subframe constitute the second set of OFDM symbols and process non-reference signal information from OFDM symbols of the second set.
