18 May 2017TL;DR: This paper aims to understand the function of the distributive quantifier měi, a marker of plurality over plural entities seen as a set denoted by Numeral-NP, and marks the sorting key for a distributive dependency in the sense of Choe (1987).
Abstract: This paper aims to understand the function of the distributive quantifier měi Open image in new window in the [měi-Numeral-NP V Numeral-NP] construction. Měi is viewed as a marker of plurality over plural entities, seen as a set denoted by Numeral-NP, and marks the sorting key for a distributive dependency in the sense of Choe (1987). Without měi, the structure [Numeral-NP V Numeral-NP] can induce either a distributive dependency or a proportional relation between the two numeral NPs. We account for the implausibility of the sequence [*měi-yī-NP]. Měi involves the notion of unit, which is distinct from the notion of singular number expressed by the numeral yī ‘one’.

19 Jul 2020TL;DR: According to the results of a survey conducted in this study, stickers were designed to meet elderly people’s communication requirements and testing was conducted to verify whether the elderly could use the stickers appropriately.
Abstract: Elderly people neglected by relatives or friends have a poor social network and are thus lonely. Such loneliness can be alleviated through diverse Internet-based communication methods. Specifically, elderly people can effectively connect with their friends, relatives, children, and grandchildren if they can use instant messaging programs on smartphones. However, elderly people face health-related physical difficulties and loss of memory. Therefore, determining elderly people’s needs and their ability to effectively understand instant messages is imperative. Accordingly, this study explored elderly people’s perceptions and cognition of instant messaging software stickers. According to the results of a survey conducted in this study, stickers were designed to meet elderly people’s communication requirements. Testing was conducted to verify whether the elderly could use the stickers appropriately.
