TL;DR: In this paper, the authors focused on the relation between motivation and job satisfaction, and found that job satisfaction is significantly affected by motivation, although the working pressure is high enough to make someone resign from his job within 7 days of work.
Abstract: Surabaya as the third largest city in Indonesia, become more popular for its culinary industry from the smallest scale of traditional warung until the high end scale of fine dining restaurant. The amount of the restaurant business is gradually increase, this phenomenon makes a good advantage for the local people especially the amount of job opportunity. In the other side, restaurant industries in Surabaya also facing the high rivalry and competition among individual restaurant business. In order to survive from the competition , each business should have its own competitive advantage. Human resource is one of the most important resource to gaining the competitive advantage, since it related with human being at the final result how excellent was the planning process, human aspect will take a final decision for the result of a process. The research is focusing on the relation between motivation and job satisfaction, the writer saw the phenomenon in Pakuwon Food Festival, that some employee feel satisfy with their work, although the working pressure is high enough to make someone resign from his job within 7 days of work. According to the pre-interview, the writer found that the employee feel comfortable with their work because of their workmates is very social and feel like a new small family in working environment. This research used quantitative approach for the data process, and simple linear regression for the analysis. The result of the research is that job satisfaction is significantly affected by motivation.

TL;DR: Using the context of game design, the concept of object is identified to assist students with understanding object oriented design principles and can improve the student passing grades from 59.27% in the previous semesters become 80.64%.
Abstract: Learning object oriented programming (OOP) is a hard task for many beginning students who have already familiar with procedural language paradigm. Over the last six semesters, only about 59.27% students who take OOP class passed. To address persistent difficulties mainly imposed by the already known paradigm, we adopted the approach of cooperative learning based on game design with visual programming environment to teach OOP. Using the context of game design, we identify the concept of object to assist students with understanding object oriented design principles. In this research, we use GameMaker to teach about object concept by creating a game and MinimUML to teach about class design before implementing any code. As the implementation of cooperative learning, the class is divided as some groups. This method is implemented in second semester of year 2008/2009 in five classes and about 124 students have taken this course. This method can improve the student passing grades from 59.27% in the previous semesters become 80.64%.

TL;DR: In this paper, the influence of organizational safety culture on workers behavior was examined empirically through structural equation model, which comprised of six factors of organizational culture and one factor of worker behavior, and concluded that top management commitment is a pivotal driver of safety culture, and workers behavior can be controlled using the combination of prescriptive and discretionary approaches.
Abstract: Abstrak . Abstract . Safety culture plays a very important role in shaping workers’ safety behavior in construction project. Therefore efforts to minimize construction accidents should first be started by performing good safety culture. However, existing empirical attempts to study safety culture and its influence to worker behavior in construction are still in their infancy stage. This research examines empirically the influence of organizational safety culture on workers behavior. To accomplish this objective, the research first proposed a hypothetical model, which comprised of six factors of organizational culture and one factor of worker behavior. This model was then evaluated statistically through structural equation model. Data needed were collected by conducting questionnaire survey to construction workers. A total of 207 valid questionnaires were returned and formed the basis for structural equation modeling and subsequent analyses. The analyses results indicate only four safety culture factors having significant influence on workers behavior. The research concludes that top management commitment is a pivotal driver of safety culture, and the workers behavior can be controlled using the combination of prescriptive and discretionary approaches.

TL;DR: In this article, a three-phase four wire current-controlled Voltage Source Inverter (CC-VSI) is proposed for both harmonic mitigation and PV energy extraction, which works as a grid current-controlling shunt active power filter.
Abstract: This paper proposes a three-phase four wire current-controlled Voltage Source Inverter (CC-VSI) for both harmonic mitigation and PV energy extraction. For harmonic mitigation, the CC-VSI works as a grid current-controlling shunt active power filter. Then, the PV array is coupled to the DC bus of the CC-VSI. The MPPT controller employs the Fibonacci search method. The output of MPPT controller is a DC voltage that determines the DC-bus voltage according to the PV maximum power. From computer simulation, the CC-VSI can effectively compensate for harmonics as well as deliver PV power to the grid.

TL;DR: In this paper, the role of factors that determine the students' decision to start up their own businesses are explored together with external factors such as uncertainty in political and economic growth. But, the authors only focused on the personal characteristics of students.
Abstract: Endorsing academic entrepreneurship has become a major topic of public policy across the developed and developing countries. From the perspective of students, starting a new firm is a complicated decision due to high uncertainty and perceived risk. There are many factors that can support or hinder the students’ decision to start their own firms. This paper is intended to explore the role of factors that determine the students’ decision to start up own businesses. Internal factors such as motivation and other personal characteristics are explored together with external factors such as uncertainty in political and economic growth. The hypotheses based on these ideas were tested by using a survey on the university students at Petra Christian University (PCU), Indonesia. The regression analysis results broadly support the argument that the personal characteristics are important. Furthermore, external factors and some perceived barriers also proved to be positively significant. Based on these findings, suggestions were given for the improvement of entrepreneurial program conducted by the university.

Abstract: Internet technology has made communication much easier and less expensive. It has attracted many people and has penetrated into people’s daily lives. The mass media also have accepted the internet. Almost all forms of traditional media, such as radio, television, and newspaper have extended their work into this new field. The internet and the world wide web have both significantly influenced modern journalism. Many television, radio broadcasting stations, and newspapers in Indonesia operate their sites using internet technology. Internet brings a technical communication revolution, a fundamental change takes place in the structure of connections, artificial memories and the reproduction of their content. In online media allows readers to enjoy browsing their product and service of contents, such as news feed, podcasts, deskstop alert, news on mobile phones, PDA and others mobile devices. Online media offer not only text but also digital images, audio file, and moving images (video). The interactive features of the internet seemingly imply that online media have more advantages than traditional media forms. So, the internet have dramatically evolved become new media with characteristic multimedia, hypertext, interactivity, archives, and virtuality. The most important structural new media characteristic is the integration of telecommunications, data communications and mass communication in a single medium. It is the process of convergence.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss the role of board of directors of a limited corporation in the management of a company and the consequences of the board's actions on its own property.
Abstract: Family members as owner or majority stakeholders in a company often making deep intervension to their company by ignore principles of business management. Therefore, boards of directors, after pressure by owner, often making decisions which is damaging others. One of that company form is limited corporation (ltd. corp) so that its management must be done professionally. But, professionality of limited corporate management often hampered by strong influence or negative intervension (unhonesty) from owner. Whereas, according to Law number 40 of 2007 regarding to Limited Corporation, corporation is autonomous or independent company in business act and making decision. Therefore, the liability of a limited corporation just limited on its own property. It means that when there is an large unpayable debt of company, owner and board of directors are not involved to get liability of debt even to his individual properties. The autonomy of this limited corporation will give consequencies to its management system that its management must be submit to the law.

TL;DR: The BBN concept is extended with meaningful fuzzy labels for mining fuzzy association rules for determining the relation between two fuzzy nodes and the highest fuzzy information gain is used for mining association among nodes.
Abstract: Bayesian Belief Network (BBN), one of the data mining classification methods, is used in this research for mining and analyzing medical track record from a relational data table. In this paper, the BBN concept is extended with meaningful fuzzy labels for mining fuzzy association rules. Meaningful fuzzy labels can be defined for each domain data. For example, fuzzy labels secondary disease and complication disease are defined for disease classification. We extend the concept of Mutual Information dealing with fuzzy labels for determining the relation between two fuzzy nodes. The highest fuzzy information gain is used for mining association among nodes. A brief algorithm is introduced to develop the proposed concept. Experimental results of the algorithm show processing time in the relation to the number of records and the number of nodes. The designed application gives a significant contribution to assist decision maker for analyzing and anticipating disease epidemic in a certain area.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors developed more realistic EPQ models for deteriorating items by considering stochastic machine unavailability time (uniformly and exponentially distributed) and price-dependent demand.
Abstract: The economic production quantity (EPQ) model is widely employed in reality and is also being intensively developed in the research area. This research tries to develop more realistic EPQ models for deteriorating items by considering stochastic machine unavailability time (uniformly and exponentially distributed) and price-dependent demand. Lost sales will occur when machine unavailability time is longer than the non production time. Since the closed form solution cannot be derived, we use Genetic Algorithm (GA) to solve the models. A numerical example and sensitivity analysis is shown to illustrate the models. The sensitivity analyses show that a management can use price policy to minimize the profit loss due to machine unavailability time under a price- dependent demand situation

TL;DR: In this article, a shunt active power filter for a three-phase four-wire system to overcome the power quality problems generated by mixed non-linear loads which are a combination of harmonic, reactive and unbalanced components is presented.
Abstract: This paper describes the implementation of a shunt active power filter for a three-phase four-wire system to overcome the power quality problems generated by mixed non-linear loads which are a combination of harmonic , reactive and unbalanced components. The filter consists of a three-phase current-controlled voltage source inverter (CC-VSI) with a filter inductor at the AC output and a DC-bus capacitor. T he CC-VSI is operated to directly control the grid current in order to be sinusoidal and in phase with the grid voltage without sensing the load currents. The switching is controlled by using polarized ramp-time current control, which is based on the concept of zero average current error (ZACE) with a fixed switching frequency. The laboratory experiment results indicate that the filter is able to mitigate the harmonics and the reactive power, so that the grid currents are sinusoidal, in phase with the grid voltages, and symmetric although the grid voltage contains harmonics .

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present critical factors that constitute a successful implementation of the Advanced Manufacturing Technologies (AMT) in Small Medium Enterprises (SME) in order to guarantee the succesfull of running these processes, one should consider the Critical Success Factors (CSF).
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to present critical factors that constitute a successful implementation of the Advanced Manufacturing Technologies (AMT) in Small Medium Enterprise (SME). Many large companies have applied AMT and the applications have shown significant results in this global market era. Conveniently, these phenomenons are also engaged to Small Medium Enterprises (SME) that of high demands on performing high quality product, fast delivery, reliable and more flexible. The implementation of AMT follow several processes namely pre installation, installation, improvement and mature. In order to guarantee the succesfull of running these processes, one should consider the Critical Success Factors (CSF). We conducted a survey to 125 SMEs that have implemented AMT, and found that the CSF for each process are moderately different. Good leadership is the main critical success factor for preparing and installation of the AMT. Once the AMT started or installed and arrived at growth stage, the financial availability factor turns into a critical success factor in the AMT implementation. In, mature stage, the support and commitment of top management becomes an important factor for gaining successful implementation. By means of factor analysis, we could point out that strategic factors are the main factors in pre-installation and installation stage. Finally, in the growth stage and mature stage, both tactical and strategic factors are the important factors in the successful of AMT implementation

TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that if the opening orientation is at the wind shadow zone, the interior space will not receive wind, it obtains sucking pressure instead, and the design of an opening should focus on the area of inlet and outlet.
Abstract: Natural ventilation for dwellings in tropical wet regions is very important for health. The requirement for natural ventilation is measured in air change rate (ACH) constituting of the availability of fresh air, quality of air circulation, heat losses, and unwanted gasses in the room. Wind speed is useful for accelerating evaporative cooling process and thus plays an important role for thermal comfort in the interior room. Local wind conditions affects the ventilation of a building and therefore might cause problems in predicting the natural ventilation and thermal comfort in a high-rise building, especially in the area and orientation of an opening that is not perpendicular to the wind direction. Ventilation parameters that are to be observed are the air flow rate and air change (ACH) that are gained from a simulation using the AILOS software. The results show that if the opening orientation is at the wind shadow zone, the interior space will not receive wind, it obtains sucking pressure instead. The design of an opening should focus on the area of inlet and outlet because when ACH does not increase, consequently internal wind speed becomes low and thermal comfort will not be met. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia: Keberadaan ventilasi alam pada hunian lingkungan tropis lembab sangat penting bagi kesehatan.

Abstract: This qualitative research was conducted to examine the types of argument structure by Hillary Clinton in part one of the CNN Democratic Presidential Debate since Hillary, who had a great deal of experiences in political parties, was supposed to be able to construct convincing arguments that had good argument structures. The theories used to analyze were Bierman and Assali’s (1996), King’s (n.d.) and Stanlick’s (2003). The findings showed that there were five types of argument structure used: serial, linked, convergent, divergent, and hybrid argument structures. The linked argument structure was the argument structure used the most frequently in Hillary’s utterances in the debate, while the divergent was the least one. Thus, it could be concluded that Hillary’s speech in the Presidential Debate was quite interesting since she could combine all the five types of argument structure, though the frequency of using them was not the same and it seems that linked argument structure was the most effective strategy for her in arguing about the politic, economy, and social issues.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of the amount of Al added to polymethylsiloxane (PMS) was studied by simultaneous thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and electron probe microanalysis.
Abstract: Al-filler-loaded polymethylsiloxane (PMS) was pyrolysed in air atmosphere at temperatures 400–1700 °C. The effect of the Al amount added to the PMS on phase development, densification behaviour and microstructure evolution was studied by simultaneous thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and electron probe microanalysis. The Al/PMS reaction route is complex producing Si, SiO2 (amorphous and cristobalite), Al2O3 (γ-, ι- and α-Al2O3), Al2OC, Al4O4C, Al4SiC4, and AlN, depending on the ratio of Al/PMS in the initial mixture. Increasing the Al content (high Al/PMS ratio) reduces the amount of voids and porosities after PMS degradation. The voids and porosities provide access for the oxygen atmosphere into the inner structure to oxidise the Al particles, Si or SiC and also as channels for the PMS degradation products to escape. Mullite formation was identified in sample containing >73 wt% Al at temperature as low as 1400 °C.

Abstract: This paper describes an application of fuzzy logic to solve the problem of an autonomous mobile robot in tracking the path within a maze. The robot equipped with ultrasonic transceivers to measure the distance between robot and the wall. The information of distance then will be processed using fuzzy-based algorithm and implemented in two chips FPGA. The FPGA has responsibility to formulize the rule of the fuzzy and generate the PWM signals for robot’s motors as the result of fuzzy inference. Implementing all necessary fuzzy logic algorithms will require many FPGA resources. Therefore, we use two FPGAs: XC4010E and XC4005XL. The first one for the fuzzification and rule base evaluation, and it consumes 98% of its resources (CLBs). The second one for defuzzification and PWM output generation, which utilizes 78% of all its CLBs. By implementing fuzzy logic using FPGA, the robot achieves relatively safe tracking the path in real-time sense. Abstract: This paper is to find out how Obama’s inauguration speech addresses the confidence of the new President to cope with the domestic problems and renew the American role in the world in terms of its theme, plot structure, linguistic and stylistic categories. The theme expressing the historically-rooted confidence to remake the nation and the world is developed into six simple elements. The words in general are aimed to emphasize a convincing vision - a return to the steady rule of law and the solid ideals of the U.S. democracy. Obama’s repeated use of the illocutionary act of commissives convinces his audience and fellow citizens that the crisis they are suffering will optimistically be overcome. To better provoke his audience’ interest, more compound sentences and frequent apposition are used. The figures of speech used are mostly metaphor and very few in the forms of synecdoche and metonymy. Three-part structural constructions, sometimes with their half-rhymes, are also repeatedly used for creating the effect of continuity and reinforcements. The cohesion in the speech is achieved by the employment of cohesive devices such as co- reference pronouns and ellipsis. Throughout the speech, Obama places himself as a humble citizen and addresses his audience as his inseparable compatriots in the use of the pronoun “we” (43) and the possessive pronoun “our” (37).
