01 Jun 2001TL;DR: A fastener assembly for a spinal fixation system that is particularly useful in treatment of pediatric and small-statured patients includes a fastener, an attachment member, and a locking member as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: A fastener assembly for a spinal fixation system that is particularly useful in treatment of pediatric and small-statured patients includes a fastener, an attachment member, and a locking member The fastener has a lower portion for contacting a bone and an upper portion integral with the lower portion The upper portion has two open channels Each channel is configured and dimensioned to receive a portion of a longitudinal or connecting member along its circumference The attachment member is positionable on the fastener and at least partially covers the channel that receives the longitudinal or connecting member The locking member is operatively associated with the upper portion of the fastener and secures the attachment member and the longitudinal or connecting member to the fastener

05 Sep 2001TL;DR: In this article, implantable, resorbable copolymers containing L-lactide and glycolide repeat units, and in particular to terpolymers containing D-Lactide, glycolides, and one other type of repeat unit selected from the group consisting of D-lactic acid, D,L-latide, and e-caprolactone, are described.
Abstract: The present invention relates in general to implantable, resorbable copolymers containing L-lactide and glycolide repeat units, and in particular to terpolymers containing L-lactide, glycolide, and one other type of repeat unit selected from the group consisting of D-lactide, D,L-lactide, and e-caprolactone. Medical devices for in vivo implantation applications containing such implantable, resorbable copolymers are also described, as well as methods for making such copolymers and devices.

30 Jul 1999TL;DR: An allogenic intervertebral implant for fusing vertebrae is disclosed in this article, which is a piece of allogenic bone conforming in size and shape with a portion of an end plate of a vertebra.
Abstract: An allogenic intervertebral implant for fusing vertebrae is disclosed. The implant is a piece of allogenic bone conforming in size and shape with a portion of an end plate of a vertebra. The implant has a wedge-shaped profile to restore disc height and the natural curvature of the spine. The top and bottom surfaces of the implant have a plurality of teeth to resist expulsion and provide initial stability. The implant according to the present invention provides initial stability need for fusion without stress shielding.

13 Nov 2003TL;DR: In this article, an adjustable self-drilling tap assembly and method for drilling and tapping bores in bone for use in orthopedic procedures to treat bone is presented. But the method is not suitable for the use in the surgical setting.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an adjustable self drilling tap assembly and method for drilling and tapping bores in bone for use in orthopedic procedures to treat bone. The adjustable length tap assembly includes a shaft having cutting threads for drilling holes in bone, a stop collar configured and dimensioned to be translatable along the longitudinal axis of the shaft, and a locking collar comprising a member configured and dimensioned to be received over at least a portion of the stop collar. The locking collar preferably is configured and dimensioned to engage with the stop collar to adjustably set the effective length for the cutting threads and to prevent movement of the stop collar along the longitudinal axis of the shaft.

07 Sep 1999TL;DR: A variable angle spinal fixation system is described in this paper, which includes a longitudinal member positionable along a spinal column, a fastener having a threaded end for engaging a vertebra, and a connector member for connecting the fastener and the longitudinal member.
Abstract: A variable angle spinal fixation system is disclosed. The system includes a longitudinal member positionable along a spinal column, a fastener having a threaded end for engaging a vertebra, and a connector member for connecting the fastener and the longitudinal member. The connector member has a channel extending through side surfaces of the connector member for receiving the longitudinal member, an opening laterally displaced from the channel and extending through top and bottom surfaces of the connector member for receiving the fastener, and a fastener clamping element for securing the fastener in the opening at a surgeon selected angle relative to the connector member and longitudinal member. The system according to the present invention allows angulation of the fastener to accommodate complex pathologies.
