TL;DR: In this article , the authors evaluated the changes occurring in the Teles Pires River basin over the last 34 years and generated maps to determine changes in land use classifications between 1986, 1991, 1996, 2000, 2005, 2011, 2015, and 2020.
Abstract: The Teles Pires River basin in Brazil’s center-west has recently expanded agricultural economic development at the expense of both the Amazon rainforest and Cerrado savannah. We evaluated these changes occurring in this basin over the last 34 years. Maps were generated to determine changes in land use classifications between 1986, 1991, 1996, 2000, 2005, 2011, 2015, and 2020. The supervised classification of Landsat 5 and 8 images used the maximum likelihood algorithm. Satellite spatial data on land use downloaded from the United States Geological Survey were validated according to 1477 locations, where our research team categorized land use in the field during 2020. The growth in agricultural crops (+643%) and pasture (+250%) from 1986 to 2020 were detrimental to natural areas, such as the rainforest and savannah. The percentage increase in the agricultural areas between the evaluated years peaked around 1996 and stabilized in 2020 at 40% of the Teles Pires River basin’s land area. Land use change patterns were related to political/economic events in Brazil, forest/pasture conversions until 2011, and the change from pasture to crops from 2011 to 2020. There was greater intensity in the changes in the upper Teles Pires River basin toward the south, which expanded northward over time. Sustainable agricultural intensification is needed in such stabilized, frontier areas.

TL;DR: The use of data science, artificial intelligence, and big data in the field of chemistry has recently grown to speed up the discovery of new materials, drugs, and synthetic substances and the identification of automated compounds as discussed by the authors .
Abstract: The use of data science, artificial intelligence, and big data in the field of chemistry has recently grown to speed up the discovery of new materials, drugs, and synthetic substances and the identification of automated compounds. Machine learning and data science are commonly used in organic chemistry to predict biological and physicochemical properties of molecules and are referred to as quantitative structure active relationship (QSAR, for biological properties) and quantitative structure property relationship (QSPR, for nonbiological properties). In addition, data science and machine learning have advanced the optimization of molecular properties, synthetic pathways, and even the design of novel compounds. These models can learn the underlying patterns of molecular structures to generate new compounds with desirable properties. Hence, machine learning (ML) is extensively used in chemistry, and the field is rapidly adopting state-of-the-art ML algorithms and tools such as deep learning, tensors, and transformers to solve and model chemical problems. The application of data science and ML, particularly deep learning, plays a significant role in advancing research in organic chemistry.

TL;DR: In this article , the authors investigated whether construction measures incorporated in the building envelope are capable of counterbalancing climate change impacts on the thermal performance of LIH found in the Tropical Savannah climate, in the Brazilian Central-Western region.
Abstract: An important issue for bioclimatic measures is research that is easy to implement for low-income housing (LIH) to enhance its habitability to face climate change. This study investigates whether construction measures incorporated in the building envelope are capable of counterbalancing climate change impacts on the thermal performance of LIH found in the Tropical Savannah climate, in the Brazilian Central-Western region. A base scenario is considered alongside future climate change scenarios, using the Fourth Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Building computational simulation was run to quantify the cooling degree-hours (CDH) and the indoor thermal comfort conditions in Standard and Efficient LIH. The predictions show that buildings in the Savannah region will be hit hard by global warming. Thermal inertia, insulation, and low absorptance construction measures enable LIH to be resilient in the 2020s, neutralizing the impact on CDH and thermal comfort conditions. For the 2050s, measures provided five months within comfort conditions and three months almost complying with the prescribed requirements. The bioclimatic measures suggested are an alternative strategy for removing barriers to adapting buildings to global warming, especially those destined for the low-income population, promoting building sustainability.

TL;DR: In this article , the authors investigated the effects of yellow anaconda harvest on its demography based on 2002-2019 data and show that exploitation levels are sustainable, and that a gradual reduction in annual hunting effort, due to a decrease in the number of hunters and hunting season duration, reduced the total number of anacondas harvested.
Abstract: Sustainable wildlife management is necessary to guarantee the viability of source populations; but it is rarely practiced in the tropics. The yellow anaconda ( Eunectes notaeus ) has long been harvested for its leather. Since 2002 its harvest has operated under a management program in northeastern Argentina, which relies on adaptive management practices, that limit the minimum body length permitted for harvesting, the number of active hunters and the length of hunting seasons. Here we investigated the effects of yellow anaconda harvest on its demography based on 2002–2019 data and show that exploitation levels are sustainable. The gradual reduction in annual hunting effort, due to a decrease in the number of hunters and hunting season duration, reduced the total number of anacondas harvested. Conversely, captures per unit effort increased across the study period. The body size of anacondas was not influenced by the harvesting, and more females than males were caught. We also found that a decrease in mean temperature positively influenced anaconda harvest and the capture of giant individuals. Because sustainable use is a powerful tool for conservation, and anacondas are widespread in South America, these discoveries are highly applicable to other species and regions.

TL;DR: In this paper , a perfil profissional at the Escola Estadual Nova Chance in Mato Grosso, Brazil, has been created, with the purpose of supporting the creation of a realidade escolar.

TL;DR: In this article , a negative correlation was found between SF and cardiovascular parameters, BL, and STP in both groups, but this was almost double among PAE, with a quick recovery already at T5 for EA and levels still negative at all times for PAE.
Abstract: ABSTRACT To compare the physical conditioning, hemodynamic, and salivary biomarkers between elderly athletes and the physically active elderly. 14 men: EA (n = 8) and PAE (n = 6). Collection times (T0; TE; T5; T15). A negative correlation was found between SF and cardiovascular parameters, BL, and STP in both groups, but this was almost double among PAE. For HR and SBP, there was a faster recovery in EA. The EA increase was correlated with SBP, while for PAE it was correlated with HR. BL showed an increase in TE, reaching 481% in EA and 639% in PAE. SNO showed a similar increase for the groups at the TE, but at T5, while EA already showed a reduction, PAE saw a 94% increase, with a slower decay for this group at T15. The SF presented the negative Δ% was almost double in PAE, with a quick recovery already at T5 for EA and levels still negative at all times for PAE. For SIgA-s, there was an increase of 37% in EA and only 7% at the TE in PAE; 41% in EA and 15% in PAE for T5; and 26% in EA and 14% in PAE at T15. SA showed a higher peak in EA (TE) and less acute in PAE (T5) but there was a decrease among both at T15. STP increased by 126% in EA and 438% in PAE, already showing a return at T5 for EA, but increasing by 213% in PAE. Negative levels were reached at T15 for EA but levels remained high in PAE. Levels of physical conditioning affect cardiovascular parameters, salivary biomarkers, and their correlation within the over-60s.
