TL;DR: In this paper , the authors address questions to which there are currently no answers and ad-dresses the economic feasibility of the MASS concept, which is supported by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).
Abstract: Despite all efforts to ensure the safety of ships, available statistics show that the human factor remains the biggest problem in the maritime industry. The desire to improve the safety of ships and the related protection of the environment has been at the heart of the Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) concept, which is supported by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). Although the concept itself seems feasible in principle, there are still a number of open questions from an operational point of view. Furthermore, the economic feasibility of the concept is unknown. This paper ad-dresses questions to which there are currently no answers.

TL;DR: In this paper , a series of open-ended interviews were conducted to gain insight into how shipping organizations struggle with this issue and explore the influence of safety resource activities and other exploratory variables on seafarers' safety behavior.
Abstract: Abstract Inadequate human actions are still the main cause of all reported accidents and incidents on board ships. The aim of this study is to explore the influence of safety resource activities and other exploratory variables on seafarers’ safety behaviour. For this study, a series of open-ended interviews were conducted to gain insight into how shipping organisations struggle with this issue. Following the interviews, a questionnaire was prepared and distributed to professional seafarers. Two exploratory factor analyses were conducted to identify the underlying factor structure and five factors emerged. Furthermore, three hierarchical multiple regression analyses were conducted to examine the influence of the factors obtained, namely, Company safety orientation and Additional safety incentives on seafarers’ perceived Safety awareness, Job satisfaction, Risk acceptance and other exploratory variables. The study shows that the perceived resource-related activities of the organisation and the demographic characteristics of the respondents can influence the safety behaviour of seafarers.

TL;DR: In this article , the authors provide an overview of recent progress on the problem of controllability of parameter dependent systems and explore different control notions successfully developed through the last decade, and provide a precise computational algorithm accompanied by a numerical example.
Abstract: In this chapter we provide an overview of recent progress on the problem of controllability of parameter dependent systems. We explore different control notions successfully developed through the last decade. The aim of the control function is to steer the system to a state satisfying some properties prescribed either at some time instant T>0 or during a given time interval. These properties may be separated with respect to parameter values and can refer just to a single system itself (e.g. greedy control), or may consider solutions corresponding to the whole parameter range (e.g. ensemble control, averaged control). In the latter case control functions are designed as parameter invariant, implying a same control is to be applied to the system independently of a particular realization of the parameter, while in the first case controls vary along with the parameter. Beside the positive theoretical results, for each notion we provide a precise computational algorithm accompanied by a numerical example.

TL;DR: In this article , a collection of essays dedicated to the late Professor Čaušević is presented, which contains twenty-five papers, mostly from the realm of Turkish studies, authored by the Professor's colleagues, friends and associates.
Abstract: Few professions are so closely associated with a specific individual. Few individuals are so attached to their vocations that it is impossible to observe them separately. In Croatia the word turkologist has become almost synonymous with Professor Ekrem Čaušević, a scholar known world-wide, who established the first university program in Turkish studies in the country—hence the title for the collection of essays dedicated to the Professor on the occasion of his 70th birthday. This volume contains twenty-five papers, mostly from the realm of Turkish studies, authored by the Professor’s colleagues, friends and associates. There are many links in it to the honoree—dedications, acknowledgments, and references to his works—eloquent reminders of the influence of his research accomplishments and longstanding successful collaboration with scholars in Turkish studies, Croatian studies, historians and linguists. Contributions authored by junior colleagues in Turkish studies are proof of the Professor’s determination to encourage the most competent students to engage in research. The diverse topics in this volume reflect the extensive research interests of Ekrem Čaušević. The first part, “Philology”, is focused on the area Čaušević contributed to the most. The second part, “History”, contains contributions that do not belong to the research interests of Ekrem Čaušević in the narrower sense. However, historiography still presents a relevant and valuable framework for his linguistic works which include a diachronic perspective as well.

TL;DR: In this paper , a volume dedicated to the doyen of Ottoman studies in Croatia, Professor Nenad Moačanin, is presented, which is divided into three main main chapters entitled “Ottoman Bosnia, Turkish Croatia, and Turkey in Europe,” “Distant Borders and Regions,’ and “Glimpses Beyond the Ottoman Border: Habsburg Croatia and the Republic of Dubrovnik.
Abstract: The articles written by friends, colleagues, former students, and one current doctoral student collected in this celebratory volume dedicated to the doyen of Ottoman studies in Croatia, Professor Nenad Moačanin, are divided into three main chapters entitled “Ottoman Bosnia, Turkish Croatia, and Turkey in Europe,” “Distant Borders and Regions,” and “Glimpses Beyond the Ottoman Border: Habsburg Croatia and the Republic of Dubrovnik.” The first section consists of the articles predominantly dedicated to the main fields of interests of Nenad Moačanin, namely social and economic history of the Ottoman Empire, with special focus on Ottoman Bosnia, the Balkans and Central Europe, as well as the Ottoman borderland in Croatia. The second section entitled “Distant Borders and Regions” brings three articles which are geographically remote from the Western Balkans and Central Europe, such as Crimea, Syria, and Palestine, but nevertheless fit well into the conception of the volume by offering a possibility for comparison of distant regions. The third section “Glimpses Beyond the Ottoman Border: Habsburg Croatia and the Republic of Dubrovnik” contains five articles which provide an important insight into the situation on “the other side.” The volume also includes a biographical overview of Professor Moačanin’s scientific and educational career at the beginning, and the bibliography at the end of the volume .
