TL;DR: In conclusion-Plumbagin feeding brings about a definite regression of atheroma and prevents the accumulation of cholesterol and triglycerides in liver and aorta and raises the decreased HDL-Chol significantly.
Abstract: Plumbagin (2-methyl-5-hydroxy, 1:4 naphthoquinone) isolated from the roots of Plumbago zeylanica when administered to hyperlipidaemic rabbits, reduced serum cholesterol and LDL-Chol. by 53 to 86 percent and 61 to 91 percent respectively. It lowered cholesterol/phospholipid ratio by 45.8 percent and elevates the decreased HDL-Chol significantly. Further, Plumbagin treatment prevented the accumulation of cholesterol and triglycerides in liver and aorta and regressed atheromatous plaques of thoracic and abdominal aorta. Plumbagin treated hyperlipidaemic subjects excreted more fecal cholesterol and phospholipids. In conclusion-Plumbagin feeding brings about a definite regression of atheroma and prevents the accumulation of cholesterol and triglycerides in liver and aorta.

Abstract: Synthetic, structural and biological aspects of trigonal-bipyramidal, Me2Si(NS)Cl and octahedral, Me2Si(NS)2 types of organosilicon (IV) complexes of heterocyclic thiosemicarbazones (NSH) have been described. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, molecular weight determination, conductance measurements and electronic, infrared, 1H and 13C NMR spectral studies. Some ligands and their corresponding dimethylsilicon (IV) complexes have been tested for their effects on several pathogenic fungi and bacteria. Two representative complexes have also been found to act as sterilizing agents by reducing the production of sperm in male mice.

Abstract: The Compton profiles of polycrystalline zinc and cadmium are studied. The measurements are made using 59.537 keV γ-rays. The renormalized free atom model (RFA) and the orthonormalized linear combination of atomic orbitals (LCAO) model are used to calculate the theoretical Compton profiles. The RFA model for the electron configurations 3d104s2 and 4d105s2 for zinc and cadmium, respectively, is found to give the best agreement with the experimental profiles. Abstract: Fluctuations of charged particles in high energy oxygen, silicon and sulphur induced interactions are investigated with the method of scaled factorial moments. It is found that for decreasing bin size down to δη∼0.1 the EMU01 data exhibits intermittent behaviour. The intermittency indexes are found to decrease with increasing incident energy and multiplicity and to increase with increasing target mass. It seems also to increase as the projectile mass increases.

Abstract: Tetrakisisopropoxytantalum(V) alkylene dithiophosphato complexes, (G=−CMe2CMe2−, −CHMeCHMe−, −CH2CMe2CH2− and −CH2CEt2CH2−) have been prepared from equimolar ratios of tantalum(V) isopropoxide and alkylene dithiophosphoric acids in benzene. These moisture-sensitive compounds, which are soluble in common organic solvents and are monomeric, have been characterized by elemental analysis, molecular weight determinations and by their i.r. and n.m.r. spectra. An octahedral geometry is suggested in which the ligand is bidentate.

Abstract: A new effective pair potential is proposed for Ca 70 Mg 30 glass in Ashcroft form using the concept of a Wigner-Seitz sphere treating it as a one-component system. A theory of phonon in amorphous solids in a generalized random phase approximation is employed to compute the eigenfrequencies of the longitudinal and transverse phonons making use of the so obtained potential. The eigenfrequencies obtained agree qualitatively with the neutron inelastic scattering results of Suck et al . and also with the theoretical results of Hafner and with the results of Bhatia and Singh, both qualitatively as well as quantitatively. In addition, the elastic and thermodynamic properties of the glass have also been studied using the longitudinal and transverse sound velocities.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss briefly the theory of the transient plane source method and a comparison of these two techniques has also been given in the light of the experimental results, and the measured values of the thermal conductivity and diffusivity of these samples are in close agreement with the values of other marble samples reported earlier using the transient hot strip method.
Abstract: The recently developed transient plane source (TPS) technique has been employed for the simultaneous measurement of thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of five marble samples. In this paper we discuss briefly the theory of the transient plane source method. The source of heat also serves as a sensor of temperature increase in the sample. The measured values of the thermal conductivity and diffusivity of these samples are in close agreement with the values of other marble samples reported earlier using the transient hot strip method. A comparison of these two techniques has also been given in the light of the experimental results.

Abstract: A bimetallic-μ-oxo-alkoxide with the chemical composition CaO 2 Al 2 (OPr i ) 4 has been synthesised by thermal condensation of calcium acetate and aluminium isopropoxide in molar ratio 1:2 in decalin solution. This derivative has been characterised by elemental analysis, molecular weight measurements as well as IR and 1 H NMR spectral measurements and a plausible structure is suggested. The hydrolysis, alcoholysis and some representative chemical reactions of this bimetallic-μ-oxo-alkoxide has revealed interesting facets in corroboration of the suggested structure.

Abstract: The newly synthesized η-cyclopentadienyltitanium complexes of 1,3-dihydro-1, 3-dioxo-α-(substituted)-2H-isoindole-2-acetates have been screened for their toxicity against Columba livia (Gmelin) (the blue rock pigeon) and exhibit moderate toxicity towards this non-target bird. The bis- derivatives have been observed to be generally more active than the mono- ones, indicating the dominant contribution of ligands towards toxicity compared with cyclopentadienyl rings and chlorine atoms.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated two stiff-fluid models in which the material distribution is that of viscous fluid and the coefficient of shear viscosity is proportional to the rate of expansion in the model.
Abstract: We have investigated two stiff-fluid models in which the material distribution is that of viscous fluid. In the first model, the coefficient of shear viscosity is assumed to be constant while in the second model the coefficient of shear viscosity is proportional to the rate of expansion in the model. The paper also discusses some physical and geometrical aspects of the model. The behaviour of the model in absence of viscosity is also discussed.

TL;DR: In this article, the transient plane source (TPS) technique has been applied for the simultaneous measurement of thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of two composite materials namely, marble and magnesium oxychloride cement in the range of temperatures from 30 to 150°C.
Abstract: The recently developed transient plane source (TPS) technique has been applied for the simultaneous measurement of thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of two composite materials namely, marble and magnesium oxychloride cement in the range of temperatures from 30 to 150°C. The experimental results of these samples show that there is very slight variation in thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of these materials in this range of temperature. An effort has been made to express this variation of thermal conductivity and diffusivity with temperature by a linear relation, in these materials.
