TL;DR: In this paper, a systematic study of non-smooth dynamical systems with unilateral contact, impact and friction constraints is presented, where the authors use the mathematical framework of measure differential inclusions to formalise such models.
Abstract: Stability of motion is a central theme in the dynamics of mechanical systems. While the stability theory for systems with bilateral constraints is a well-established field, this monograph represents a systematic study of mechanical systems with unilateral constraints, such as unilateral contact, impact and friction. Such unilateral constraints give rise to non-smooth dynamical models for which stability theory is developed in this work. The book starts with the treatise of the mathematical background on non-smooth analysis, measure and integration theory and an introduction to the field of non-smooth dynamical systems. The unilateral constraints are modelled in the framework of set-valued force laws developed in the field of non-smooth mechanics. The embedding of these constitutive models in the dynamics of mechanical systems gives rises to dynamical models with impulsive phenomena. This book uses the mathematical framework of measure differential inclusions to formalise such models. The book proceeds with the presentation of stability results for measure differential inclusions. These stability results are then applied to nonlinear mechanical systems with unilateral constraints. The book closes with the study of the convergence property for a class of measure differential inclusions; a stability property for systems with time-varying inputs which is shown to be highly instrumental in the context of the control of mechanical systems with unilateral constraints. While the book presents a profound stability theory for mechanical systems with unilateral constraints, it also has a tutorial value on the modelling of such systems in the framework of measure differential inclusions. The work will be of interest to engineers, scientists and students working in the field of non-smooth mechanics and dynamics.

TL;DR: In this paper, eleven state-of-the-art contributions on boundary integral equation and boundary element methods are described and analyzed from a mathematical point of view, showing the ability of those methods to solve challenging problems from different fields of applications.
Abstract: This volume contains eleven state of the art contributions on boundary integral equation and boundary element methods. Beside some historical and more analytical aspects in the formulation and analysis of boundary integral equations also modern fast boundary element methods are described and analyzed from a mathematical point of view. In addition, engineering and industrial applications of those methods are presented showing the ability of state of the art boundary element methods to solve challenging problems from different fields of applications. This book is addressed to researchers, graduate students and practitioners working on and using boundary element methods. All contributions also show the great achievements of interdisciplinary research between mathematicians and engineers, with direct applications in industry.

TL;DR: In this article, a finite difference solution for 2D, low Reynolds number, unsteady flow around and heat transfer from a stationary circular cylinder placed in a uniform flow is presented.
Abstract: This paper presents a finite difference solution for 2D, low Reynolds number, unsteady flow around and heat transfer from a stationary circular cylinder placed in a uniform flow. The fluid is assumed to be incompressible and of constant property. The governing equations are the Navier-Stokes equations, the continuity equation, a Poisson equation for pressure and the energy equation. The temperature of the cylinder wall is kept constant and the viscous energy dissipation term is neglected in the energy equation. The computed Strouhal numbers, time-mean drag and base pressure coefficients, as well as the average Nusselt numbers compare well with existing experimental results.

TL;DR: In this article, the unsmooth boundary of a shallow water wave is considered and a fractal space is introduced to establish a generalized KdV-Burgers equation with fractal derivatives.
Abstract: The unsmooth boundary will greatly affect motion morphology of a shallow water wave, and a fractal space is introduced to establish a generalized KdV-Burgers equation with fractal derivatives. The semi-inverse method is used to establish a fractal variational formulation of the problem, which provides conservation laws in an energy form in the fractal space and possible solution structures of the equation.

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of the uniform transverse magnetic field on the transient free convective flows of a nanofluid with generalized thermal transport between two vertical parallel plates have been analyzed.
Abstract: Effects of the uniform transverse magnetic field on the transient free convective flows of a nanofluid with generalized thermal transport between two vertical parallel plates have been analyzed. The fluid temperature is described by a time-fractional differential equation with Caputo derivatives. Closed form of the temperature field is obtained by using the Laplace transform and fractional derivatives of the Wright’s functions. A semi-analytical solution for the velocity field is obtained by using the Laplace transform coupled with the numerical algorithms for the inverse Laplace transform elaborated by Stehfest and Tzou. Effects of the derivative fractional order and physical parameters on the nanofluid flow and heat transfer are graphically investigated.
