TL;DR: In this article, an introduction to corrosion science and engineering is given, with a focus on the control of corrosion and control of control of the environment. But this is not a comprehensive review of the literature.
Abstract: (1972). Corrosion and Corrosion Control: An introduction to corrosion science and engineering. British Corrosion Journal: Vol. 7, No. 3, pp. 98-98.

TL;DR: The need for these materials has to do with corrosion as discussed by the authors and at elevated temperatures, high temperature corrosion reactions occur at an alarming rate in unprotected materials or conventional materials such as carbon steel.
Abstract: The need for these materials has to do with corrosion. At elevated temperatures, high temperature corrosion reactions occur at an alarming rate in unprotected materials or conventional materials such as carbon steel. To reduce the occurrence of oxidation, and other corrosion processes such as carburization, sulfidation, halogen corrosion, salt corrosion and hot corrosion, engineers continue to develop materials that can withstand extreme temperatures, without compromising mechanical properties.

TL;DR: In this paper, the main examples of organic inhibitors recommended to protect metallic materials, especially ferrous metals and alloys, from corrosion in hydrochloric, sulphuric, nitric, hydrofluoric, phosphoric, sulphamic, citric, acetic, hydroxyacetic or formic acid or ammonium bifluoride, during acid pickling, scale removal, acid cleaning or oil and gas well acidizing, are discussed with respect to the individual problems connected with the technical applications of these various kinds of acid treatment.
Abstract: Prominent examples of inhibitors recommended to protect metallic materials, especially ferrous metals and alloys, from corrosion in hydrochloric, sulphuric, nitric, hydrofluoric, phosphoric, sulphamic, citric, acetic, hydroxyacetic or formic acid or ammonium bifluoride, during acid pickling, scale removal, acid cleaning or oil and gas well acidizing, are discussed with respect to the individual problems connected with the technical applications of these various kinds of acid treatment. The structures of organic inhibitors are given including N-containing compounds (amines, Mannich bases, alkynoxymethylamines, ammonium compounds heteroaromatics, oximes, nitriles, nitro compounds), acetylenic alcohols, S-containing compounds (mercaptans, thioethers, sulphonium compounds, sulphoxides, thioureas, thiocyanates, heteroaromatics, etc.) and complexones.

TL;DR: In this paper, the copper-benzotriazole complexes produced by precipitation in solution were examined and it was shown that the complexes also contain water molecules or hydroxyl ions, and that their structures are modified when other anions are present.
Abstract: Examination of benzotriazole-treated surfaces on copper, and the complexes produced when benzotriazole and analogous compounds react with cuprous and cupric ions in aqueous solution, has shown that the film produced on copper has a polymeric structure and is chemically bonded to the metal or metal-oxide surface Thickness of the surface film is less than 50 A, which complicates elucidation of the film structure. Exploratory work, therefore, has been based upon examination of the copper-benzotriazole complexes produced by precipitation in solution and it has been shown that the complexes also contain water molecules or hydroxyl ions, and that their structures are modified when other anions are present. Other nitrogen-containing heterocyclics also form polymeric complexes with copper, both on the metal surface and in solution, but do not exhibit the strong inhibitor properties of benzotriazole. Benzotriazole is effective for most copper-base materials and affords protection in aqueous and gaseous env...
