TL;DR: This paper examined the effects of reading skills in bilingual students and found that reading skills develop interdependently across languages and showed that bilingual reading skills are interdependent across languages, regardless of the language level.
Abstract: Research on the development of reading skills in bilingual students suggests that reading skills develop interdependently across languages. The current study examined the effects of a French readin...

TL;DR: Evaluated peer-mediated interventions for school use for young children with ASD indicated that stakeholders had some knowledge of PRT and found the PMI approach to be acceptable and feasible, and several potential challenges were identified with respect to typically developing peers as intervention agents.
Abstract: Few effective school-based interventions that target social-communication skills are available for students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The growing gap between interventions designed for u...

TL;DR: The Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) analysis was applied to major areas of the SBMH literature in addressing the areas of effectiveness and the strength of recommendation in implementation, providing an overview of the quality of the evidence.
Abstract: Recommendations derived from research evidence regarding program implementation in school-based mental health [SBMH] require knowledge of the intervention outcomes as well as the potential to trans...

TL;DR: This paper found that long-term retention can be maximized by practicing the recall of information and spreading out one's learning over time, however, previous surveys have shown that users tend to overestimate their recall.
Abstract: Much evidence suggests that long-term retention can be maximized by practicing the recall of information and spreading out one’s learning over time. Nevertheless, previous surveys have shown that u...

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: The authors investigated the relative importance of specific self-regulation components in self-regulated strategy development (SRSD) and found significant improvements in writing quality, composition duration, and writing self-efficacy.
Abstract: Self-regulated strategy development (SRSD) has extensive evidence of improving student writing; however, few studies have investigated the relative importance of specific self-regulation components in SRSD. Twelve students in Grades 5 to 7 were assigned to one of two, 5-week SRSD conditions for persuasive writing that differed in instruction on the use of self-statements. No differences in outcomes were found between SRSD conditions, but large gains in writing quality, composition duration, and writing self-efficacy were found in both conditions. Although limited by not including a no-intervention comparison condition, the observed gains were typical of effect sizes reported in meta-analyses of SRSD and provide some additional evidence of replication in independent research teams and in a Canadian context.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: The second edition of the Essentials of Assessment Report Writing as discussed by the authors provides practical and clear suggestions for effective assessment report writing using a person-centered approach and challenges both beginner and advanced clinicians to use different approaches and strategic techniques in conceptual thinking throughout interaction with the examinee, writing the report, providing feedback, and implementing recommendations and interventions based on the assessment.
Abstract: The Second Edition of the Essentials of Assessment Report Writing delivered its promise in helping clinicians develop skills and competencies in writing while promoting a common vision of creating a comprehensive, inclusive, and compassionate assessment report for each examinee. Embedded with 11 annotated reports, the book provides practical and clear suggestions for effective assessment report writing using a personcentered approach. The authors challenge both beginner and advanced clinicians to use different approaches and strategic techniques in conceptual thinking throughout the interaction with the examinee, writing the report, providing feedback, and implementing recommendations and interventions based on the assessment. The general theme of letting the referral questions drive the assessment process and utilizing the clinician’s natural abilities in empathic communication is clearly integrated into each and every chapter of the book. The book thoroughly assembles a breadth of information in providing general suggestions to improve the understandability of the report as a whole. Moreover, practical suggestions made to particular sections of the report, including background information, behavioral observations, communicating test results, and recommendations based on the assessment, are thoroughly discussed in individual chapters. Overall, the Second Edition of the Essentials of Assessment Report Writing challenges clinicians in different levels of training and expertise at improving writing skills while increasing interpersonal sensitivity to the individual client in generating a precise, informative, and meaningful assessment. Compared with the first edition, the authors indicated that they reworked and restructured the book for a greater focus on utility and professional communication of observations and insights.
