TL;DR: The colorimetric characteristics of cameras and displays, and the inter-relationship between them, are as pertinent to the subject of color reproduction as are the electrical characteristics.
Abstract: The colorimetric characteristics of cameras and displays, and the inter-relationship between them, are as pertinent to the subject of color reproduction as are the electrical characteristics. Colorimetry in general, and television colorimetry in particular are not however well understood by most television receiver engineers. In part, at least, this is due to the lack of a concise survey of the subject. This paper is intended to serve as an introduction to most facets of television colorimetry and as a brief survey of its evolution from inception of the NTSC System (1953) to the present (1973). A bibliography lists references for further study.

TL;DR: In this paper, a digital tuning indicator for a multiple band heterodyne type receiving device is disclosed which is capable of displaying the frequency to which the receiving device was tuned for AM and FM reception in kilohertz to the nearest kilo-hertz and in megahertz in 1.5th-megahertz, respectively, when receiving UHF television.
Abstract: A digital tuning indicator for a multiple band heterodyne type receiving device is disclosed which is capable of displaying the frequency to which the receiving device is tuned for AM and FM reception in kilohertz to the nearest kilohertz and in megahertz to the nearest one-tenth megahertz respectively, and of displaying the channel to which the device is tuned when receiving UHF television. The indicating system comprises a counter, the contents of which are periodically displayed. The counter contents are preset to a value which reflects the intermediate frequency of the particular band and a submultiple of the corresponding local oscillator frequency is gated into the counter for a prescribed time interval whereby the resultant sum in the counter at the end of the prescribed time interval reflects the actual received frequency or the corresponding channel number.

TL;DR: In this paper, RCA introduced a color television display system utilizing an advanced design of the electron gun, the deflection yoke and the picture tube to achieve superior performance in a simplified inherently lower-cost system.
Abstract: Since RCA introduced the internal pole piece gun in the 700 picture tube in 1954, dynamic convergence of the individual beams has been the standard of the industry. With the 900 precision in-line color picture tube assembly, RCA introduces a totally new concept in color television display system utilizing an advanced design of the electron gun, the deflection yoke, and the picture tube to achieve superior performance in a simplified inherently lower-cost system. The combination of a precision unitized close-spaced in-line gun and a line-focus type PST ( precision static toroid) deflection yoke makes practical the first inherent self-converging color system. Convergence equivalent or superior to that of present commercial receivers is achieved without the use of any dynamic convergence correction or circuitry.

TL;DR: A new television add-on data communication system which does not utilize the vertical interval is presented and several interesting systems utilizing this new signalling method have been built and will be described.
Abstract: This paper presents a description of the theory and operation of a new television add-on data communication system which does not utilize the vertical interval. The basic add-on signalling technique allows more efficient utilization of the television spectrum. Added information, producing no perceptible interference with either the picture, or ancillary and test signals, is sent through a television channel along with the standard video signal. Novel techniques to significantly reduce errors in the data channel will be described. Several interesting systems utilizing this new signalling method have been built and will be described in this paper.
