TL;DR: In this article, the authors compared the sustainability reporting practices of India and China using content analysis and independent sample t test to compare the disclosure practices of two major economies, that is,India and China.
Abstract: The present study seeks to access and compare the sustainability reporting practices in two major economies, that is, India and China. Index developed under global reporting initiative (GRI) guidelines is used. Content analysis is employed as a data collection tool. A total of 17 companies from BSE-30 (India) and 19 companies from SSE 50 (China), producing sustainability reports within the time period 2006–2007 to 2010–2011, comprise the sample set. Independent sample t test is used to compare the disclosure practices of India and China. Also, Kruskal–Wallis H test is applied for inter-category and inter-industry comparison of both countries. The results reveal that the sustainability disclosure scores are higher with respect to Indian companies as compared to Chinese companies. The results of independent sample t test are also significant at 1 per cent level of significance. However, Kruskal–Wallis H test suggests insignificant differences in the category-wise and industry-wise disclosure scores of both ...

TL;DR: This article framed domestic labour markets as embedded in global production networks and explored the potential for International Labour Organization (ILO) and civil society initiative to support women in paid work in Sri Lanka.
Abstract: Although certain strides have been made towards increased female participation in paid work, Sri Lanka’s labour market remains heavily segmented and offers limited sustainable economic opportunity for a majority of women. Differentiated entitlements determined by gender, ethnicity and class have left women disproportionately burdened by the challenges of economic development. Shaped by neoliberal reforms embedded in patriarchal ethno-nationalist economic policies, women remain over-represented in the labour-intensive, low-paid occupations that have historically formed Sri Lanka’s export base and underpinned development. As migrant domestic workers and garment producers, a majority of Sri Lankan women have been restricted to earning their livelihood through vulnerable and exploitative work within stratified labour markets. By framing domestic labour markets as embedded in global production networks, this article explores the potential for International Labour Organization (ILO) and civil society initiative...

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of two critical parameters of closed loop supply chain (CLSC), namely the quality of recyclable raw material (in terms of its yield) and degree of segregation at source, was investigated in a six echelon CLSC with recycling as a reprocessing option.
Abstract: The growing importance of environmental concerns and focus on recycling has encouraged our research efforts to study the bullwhip effect on Closed Loop Supply Chain (CLSC). This article attempts to measure bullwhip effect in a six echelon CLSC with recycling as a reprocessing option for materials like paper and plastics (perhaps the first time in CLSC literature). The proposed model considers the effect of two critical parameters of CLSC: quality of recyclable raw material (in terms of its yield) and degree of segregation at source. It is assumed that the echelons in CLSC employ an Order-Up-To (OUT) inventory policy with Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) forecasting scheme, and that the demand forecast is performed via a first order Auto Regressive Moving Average model (ARMA [1, 1]). The model developed is employed to investigate the impact of Auto Regressive (AR) and Moving Average (MA) parameter, yield of recycled material, degree of segregation at source and the lead-time on the bullwhip effect. The mod...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors offer an explanation for the factors that determine the presence of girls and women in the sex trade, even as it elucidates how varied and numerous those factors are, making it rather difficult, if not impossible, to develop a blueprint so exhaustive that it would contain all such factors.
Abstract: Sexegesis: the exegesis of the sex trade, or the lack of it. Logical: reasonable; explainable in terms of lived-in realities and comprehensible to the average human rationality (if there is such a phenomenon).2 Indeterminations: what cannot be definitely predicted or described, as also the factors that make a phenomenon so. The main purport of this article is, therefore, to offer an explanation for the factors that determine the presence of girls and women in the sex trade,3 even as it elucidates how varied and numerous those factors are, making it rather difficult, if not impossible, to develop a blueprint so exhaustive that it would contain all such factors.
