TL;DR: In this paper, a profound study of the perception of students and teachers involved in a postgraduate educational leadership program in a blended mode was conducted. And the qualitative and quantitative data was analysed using SPSS while thematic approach using emerging themes were used for interpreting the interviews.
Abstract: Growing technological advancement and emerging digital environments have infused and swiftly changed the learning landscape globally. One such advancement that incorporates face-to- face learn-ing with technological tools is the blended or hybrid mode of learning and teaching. Blended or hybrid learning is a seamless combination of online and face-to-face activities for classroom instruction for all and basically the demographically displaced. This research delves into a profound study of the perception of students and staE™ involved in a postgraduate educational leadership program oE™ered in a blended mode. An interpretive paradigm using mixed methods approach adopting a survey consisting of Likert scale items and interviews were successfully implemented. The quantitative data was analysed using SPSS while thematic approach using emerging themes were used for interpreting the interviews. Findings testify that blended approach has been liked and very well accepted by the students as it enables them to complete their qualifications and progress academically and professionally in their lives. This study sets a solid platform for further research as certain scholars and administrators are still sceptical and hesitant in fully implementing blended mode of learning and teaching. The study concludes by stating certain implications that subsequently can make blended mode more chronic and applicable to the needs of scholars, teachers and students especially in archipelagos like Fiji and beyond.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the contributions of capital market performance to economic growth in Nigeria and found that three of the indicators (market capitalization, number of listed equities, and value of transactions) positively contributed to the economic growth.
Abstract: The study examined the contributions of capital market performance to economic growth in Nige-ria;essentially, it was anchored on endogenous growth theory. Time-series data, covering 1984 to 2016, were sourced from the capital market bulletins of the Nigerian Securities and Exchange Commission and the statistical bulletins of the Central Bank of Nigeria. From these records, economic growth was proxied by gross domestic product, while capital market performance indicators employed are mar-ket capitalisation, all-share index, number of listed equities, number of deals, value of deals, value of transactions, and stock market turnover. Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) was the major estimation technique employed; however, for robustness, Auto Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) coeycients and Vector Auto Regression (VAR) coeycients were used to confirm the OLS results. It was found that, three capital market performance indicators (market capitalization, number of listed equities, and value of transactions) positively contributed to economic growth in Nigeria; and four others (stock mar-ket turnover, all-share index, number of deals, and value of deals) negatively contributed to economic growth in Nigeria. Therefore, the study concluded that, capital market performance could contribute positively or negatively to economic growth in Nigeria. So, to this extent, capital market performance has heterogeneous e˙ects on economic growth, depending on the level ofeyciency and discipline of the market as well as the conduciveness of the macroeconomic environment. This poses a resolution to the conflict between the positive-linkand the negative-link schools. It was therefore recommended, that, capital market deregulation policy should be pursued by the national government to influence positive all-share index. Also, capital market regulators should instil market discipline to discourage market infractions, and restore investors’ confidence for increased activities of the capital market, thus leading to improved stock market turnover. Not only that, government should make the macroeconomic envi-ronment conducive by putting inflation rate, exchange rate, tax rate and interest rates under check, so that both the number and value of deals can be enhanced.

TL;DR: In this article, the role of ethical orientation and proactive personality in fostering CSR perception of management students was examined in a survey with a sample of 242 management students of a university and three scales: perceived role of ethics and social responsibility (PRESOR), proactive personality and perceptions of CSR scales are used in survey.
Abstract: Purpose The purpose of the present study was to examine the role of ethical orientation and proactive personality in fostering Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) perception of management students. CSR is a philanthropic, ethical and behavioural orientation towards closing the business strategic gaps in global networking and it creates ties with the communities. CSR activities are driven mainly by the human resource development. Students are perceived as future managers of the corporate world and their perception about CSR is deemed important to business organizations. The students can make companies understand their responsibility towards various stakeholders. So, our target sample is management students who can help and understand the perception of CSR. Design/methodology/approach A sample of 242 management students of a university are participated in a survey. After doing a review of literature, we selected three scales: Perceived Role of Ethics and Social Responsibility (PRESOR), Proactive Personality and Perceptions of CSR scales are used in survey. Descriptive statistics is used to test the hypotheses. Findings Exploratory factor analysis and content analysis suggested that CSR perceptions can be further sub-divided into independent constructs such as perceptions of Philanthropic CSR and perceptions of Ethical CSR. Findings reveal that the both PRESOR and proactive personality are positively correlated with Philanthropic CSR but only PRESOR is positively related to CSR Ethical. Research limitations/implications While the scope of this study is limited to management students in one organization and results may not generalize to different students in different regions. Hence, future studies should test the given hypotheses in different discipline of students. The findings suggest that management education should incorporate CSR course or projects and is a part of business management education. Practical implications Implications of these results for management educators and practitioners are that proper guidance and trainings are required to increase awareness for CSR activities and engage proactive students to put their values they bring to those classes. Today's students may represent a new source of corporate social responsibility. The dimensions identified in the study if incorporated by the business in its day-to-day operations can make it socially responsible as well as socially acceptable in the true sense. Originality/value This research makes an empirical contribution to identify the factors which management students expect business enterprises should do to be justified as socially responsible corporate citizens. Experienced and non-experienced students create a vast difference to the business world. Now students hold long term goal which is a positive syndrome for business organization.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors draw on Marx's grounding of value in social labour so as to create oper-ational space for emergent knowledge to bear on functioning of human systems in the digital age.
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to draw on Marx’s grounding of value in social labour so as to create oper-ational space for emergent knowledge to bear on functioning of human systems in the digital age. In particular, it is to address the prospect of ‘digitally enhanced serfdom’ framed by neoliberal - enforced division of labour which is driving techno-scientific complexification away from the service to ‘libera-tion by independent reason’. It will be argued that the necessary condition for redeeming ideals of the Enlightenment without depriving humanity of the benefits o˙ered by emergent technologies is a long overdue methodological turn in educational, training, and management programmes. This is about equipping individuals with novel attitudes to and ownership of experience and work with competences reaching beyond the traditional notion of expertise, about raising the task of problem solving to the level of perpetual problem formulation peculiar to the open, multi-disciplinary spaces of the current vita activa. Only then is it possible to bridge the gap between the emergent knowledge and its social outcomes, with a view to restoring value as a measure of actualization of fullest human potential for all.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate the various controversies around the Canadian Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP), with a particular focus on the effects, or lack thereof, of recent reforms to the program.
Abstract: One of the most controversial and often-discussed aspects of the modern global migration system is the issue of precarious labour in the context of migration. In both unauthorized migrants, in particular in the United States and Europe, and authorized guest worker regimes, most prominent in the GulfMonarchies, employers and firms have found large pools of labour not subject to the same legal and social norms as the native workforce. This trend, which has existed since at least the post-World War II period but has been rapidly increasing in the 21st century, has not been without controversy, from a variety of political perspectives. Precarious workers in these conditions are sometimes accused of “stealing” jobs from native-born workers or of driving down working conditions in the receiving countries. Conversely, many NGOs concerned with human rights have drawn attention to the various abusive and exploitative elements embedded within these regimes. Workers are often tied to one particular employer, may not be subject to minimum wage or other workplace legislation and often live in squalid conditions. This paper will investigate the various controversies around the Canadian Temporary ForeignWorker Program (TFWP), with a particular focus on the effects, or lack thereof, of recent reforms to the program. In doing so, it will compare the policies and application of Canada’s program to other, similar programs in developed countries in order to create an accurate portrait of the programs stated and implicit goals and how successful it is achieving them. In addition, the paper will attempt to locate the TFWP’s place within the wider system of migration control policy in the Canadian context, and the extent to which it is congruent with the broader stated values of these policies.

TL;DR: This paper examined phenomenological experiences of boredom in an effort to reveal its varied meanings and classifications, and found the discriminating functions of boredom to run along axes of connection/loneliness and coping/depression, yielding four distinct types of boredom: external boredom, situational boredom, deep boredom and social boredom.
Abstract: The study examines phenomenological experiences of boredom in an effort to reveal its varied meanings and classifications. Based on interviews of 127 university students, whose responses were analyzed by qualitative (content analysis) and quantitative (discriminant analysis) methods, the research found the discriminating functions of boredom to run along axes of connection/loneliness and coping/depression, yielding four distinct types of boredom: external boredom, situational boredom, deep boredom and social boredom. The findings support the theory that boredom is multivalent and encompasses more than one distinct experience. They point to the paradoxical and vague nature of the experience, particularly salient in social boredom, which includes high levels of loneliness as an emotional element, even though it always appears in situations in which the individual is with others.

TL;DR: In this paper, a literature review was conducted on the application of quality in the construction of low-cost housing in South Africa through analysis of media reports, published articles, legal disputes and others.
Abstract: The South African constitution enshrines the right to “access adequate housing” to its citizens. However, over the years in the post-apartheid government a focus has been on quantitative low-cost housing delivery and less on the quality of these houses. Notwithstanding challenges that citizens encountered, limited research has been conducted on quality management practices in the South African low-cost housing industry. The purpose of this paper is to suggest a framework that could be applied in the industry and discuss how best quality practices could be implemented in the low-cost housing construction industry. A literature review was conducted on the application of quality in the construction of low-cost housing in South Africa. This was done through analysis of media reports, published articles, legal disputes and others. Although South Africa has established well-functioning quality management systems in other industries, low-cost housing has never been a focus. The primary emphasis is still on quantity and very limited on quality. Contractors perceive quality as a peripheral issue and afford less attention to its value. The framework in this study encapsulates policy issues, customer needs, strategy approaches and others.

TL;DR: In this paper, the immunity clause and democratic governance in Nigeria were discussed and the authors made it clear that there are lots of justifications for the retention of immunity clause in the 1999 Constitution.
Abstract: This paper interrogates the immunity clause and democratic governance in Nigeria. The 1999 con-stitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria make constitutional provisions on immunity for certain categories of elected political-oA?ce holders in Nigeria. While the original intention for its inclusion in the constitution was good, politicians have used the clause to the detriment of democracy. For this reason, the constitutional provisions on immunity have become a threat to the consolidation of Nigeria’s nascent democracy. The paper interrogate diE™erent views in the course of this work, what the immunity stand for, those that argue for and against immunity clause in Nigeria, the possible eE™ect of removing the immunity clause from the constitution. In this way, the paper made it clear that there are lots of justifications for the retention of Immunity Clause in the 1999 Constitution. The retention of Immunity Clause has lots of usefulness within the Nigerian political environment at the moment. Nigerian government and people are not yet politically mature like the government and people of United States where absence of Immunity clause does not undermine executive capacity.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors found models of legal policy of Indonesian Government in determining the Educa-tion of Notary Position in Indonesia and found that the education for the position of notary in Indonesia changed from time to time and still needs improvement.
Abstract: This study aims at finding models of legal policy of Indonesian Government in determining the Educa-tion of Notary Position in Indonesia. Notaries in Indonesia are assigned by the state to exercise certain authorities under the law. To occupy the position, education becomes an important requirement. Ac-cording to the Act Number 2 Year 2014 on the Amendment of the Act Number 30 Year 2004 on the Position of Notary, the Notary candidate must have earned Master Degree on Notary. Education for candidates of Notary has experienced significant dynamics from the colonial until the reform era in accordance with the underlying legal policies of its time. The research showed that the education for the position of Notary in Indonesia changed from time to time and still needs improvement. Thus, legal reform on the education for Notaries needs serious attention from any parties so that the existence of Notaries in Indonesia meets their portion and proportion with respect to the concept, law and the ideals of the Indonesian National law.

TL;DR: The authors examines the limitations that translators encounter in their quest to achieve equivalence in translation practice and stresses the fact every translator is likely to face these challenges, as they endeavour to convey the same message from the source language to the target language.
Abstract: This article looks at the limitations that translators encounter in their quest to achieve equivalence in translation practice. Many research scholars in this field have brainstormed on the concept of equivalence and many of them tend to think that it is not a simple matter to try and establish the expected or required sameness between the source language and the target language. There are numerous challenges that translators are faced with in their effort to establish similarity or sameness between the source text and the target text. The debate surrounding the notion of equivalence started as early the 1950s, and ever since, the topic has not only been problematic but also controversial, with many arguing that no two languages in the whole world are absolutely identical in meaning. They further argue that equivalence can only be understood as a kind of likeness and not sameness. Consequently, numerous theories have emerged and have been expounded on the possibility of the source text and target text sharing some kind of approximation in meaning. This work has attempted to critically examine some of the limitations concerning the issue of equivalence in translation as propagated by a number of specialists in the field of translation theories. This article also stresses the fact every translator is likely to face these challenges, as they endeavour to convey the same message from the source language to the target language.

TL;DR: This article analyzed the translated version of the Zambia National Anthem, from English into Luvale, one of the 72 languages of Zambia, and found that modulation, omission, transposition, concision and other procedures were used.
Abstract: This article critically analyses the translated version of the Zambia National Anthem, from English into Luvale, one of the 72 languages of Zambia. As Bassnet [1] indicates, “Translation involves far more than replacement of lexical and grammatical items between languages”. Critical examination of translated texts has often revealed that what the source language perceives as very important may not be considered as relevant in the target language. The translator ought therefore to be preoccupied with conveying the overall meaning of the source text. Critical discourse analysis theories provide the insights into semantic relations that exist between the source text (ST) and target text (TT). This study has attempted, through linguistic analysis of the source text, to establish existing semantic and formal equivalence relations between the Luvale translated version of the Zambia national anthem and the original English version. In analysing the English source text and Luvale target texts, this research work took into account both the macro and micro levels of text analysis. In addition to analysing linguistic and semantic relations between the English and the Luvale texts, this paper has also highlighted some cultural relations. The research discovered that modulation, omission, transposition, concision and other procedures were used. From the analysis, the translators of the Zambia national anthem, from English into Luvale, seem to agree with Bell [2] that “something is always lost in the process and translators can find themselves being accused of reproducing only part of the original and so betraying the author’s intentions”. It is for this reason that scholars like Munday [3] have argued that it is not always possible to maintain all the semantic and structural nuances of the source text.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied the influence of adhocracy culture on performance of listed banks in the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) and found that it was a strong predictor of the banks' performance.
Abstract: The banking industry plays an important role in the development of a country. For sustainable economicgrowth, a country must have a strong banking sector. However, there have been challenges inrobustness of banks’ performance as a result of the current operating environment. This has resultedto loss of jobs, locking in of customer’s deposits, erosion of shareholder’s wealth as well as a slowdownin economic growth of their countries. To enable optimal operation of banks’ within the current changingenvironment, it is prudent for management of the banks’ to study their strengths which may bea competitive advantage. Adhocracy culture has been selected for this study as one of the strengthsthat an organization can utilize to exploit the opportunities in the environment and therefore boostits performance in line with stakeholders’ expectations. This study therefore sought to determine theinfluence of adhocracy culture on performance of the listed banks in Kenya. The study is of greatsignificance to the management of the Banks in that they will know whether adhocracy culture cangive them an edge to enhance their performance. The relationship between culture and performancehas been studied by previous scholars. From the existing literature, organizational culture has beenoperationalized in different ways. This study adopted a different paradigm of the Competing ValuesFramework (CVF). Therefore, the independent variables for the research was one of the CVF culturenamely adhocracy culture. On the other side, the dependent variable for the research was the organizationperformance which was measured in both qualitative and quantitative ways using return on assets, customer experience ratings and staff satisfaction index. Strategic leadership was taken as the moderatingvariable between the relationship of adhocracy culture and performance. This study adopted adescriptive research design. The population of the study was composed of all the licensed and listedcommercial banks in the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE). For the study, multi-stage sampling wasdeployed and convenience and purposive sampling designs were used to come up with a sample of 100respondents who were interviewed using questionnaires. Secondary data on the financial results wascollected using data collection sheets. The data was analyzed for descriptive statistics and inferentialstatistics. Adhocracy culture emerged as a strong predictor of the banks’ performance. Strategic leadershipwas found not to have a significant moderating effect on the relationship between adhocracyculture and performance. In overall, the study findings concluded that the adhocracy culture variablewas statistically significant in explaining the performance in banks. The study recommends that banksshould invest more on technology and innovative solutions that provides convenience, accessibility andreliability of banking services as that will give them a competitive edge as banking services shift frombrick and mortar to technology based services.

Abstract: This study presents a thought-provoking picture of statistical data regarding the growth patterns of the religious sites for five main Chinese religions during the Cultural Revolution from 1966 to 1976. Applying comparative and quantitative lenses, this paper addresses the diE™erent growth rates of religious sites during the four diE™erent periods from 1949 to 2004 to test the relative growth pace of religious sites during the Cultural Revolution. To understand the patterns of growing religious sites from 1966 to 1976, this study also compares the diE™erent growth rates of religious sites between the first phase (1966 to 1970) and the second phase (1971-1976) of the Cultural Revolution. Furthermore, it provides detailed information concerning the year of building new religious sites for all five major religions that hold more than 2,500 new religious sites during the Cultural Revolution. In addition, the study shows the top five provinces which built the most new religious sites while denoting their respective rural and urban locations in an eE™ort to demonstrate their geographical expansion during the period. Finally, this study addresses the growth rates of the national population and per capita GDP as compared to the growth of the religious sites during the period of national disaster (1966-1976).

TL;DR: In the modern age majority of the countries in the world denied to address equally the civil society groups regarding the functions of the several social aspects of the state as discussed by the authors, therefore, the real politics needs to uphold the democratic principles practically in the society.
Abstract: ‘The way you appear is the way to recognize your destiny’ in the transition period, the nature of democracy is changing along with its principles. The concepts of ‘General Will’ (Rousseau) become declining within the sphere of democratic structure. Hence, the real politics needs to uphold the democratic principles practically in the society. In the modern age majority of the countries in the world denied to address equally the civil society groups regarding the functions of the several social aspects of the state. The Popular Sovereignty is the factor to affect on the political welfares of the citizens to create ‘egalitarian’ society. Therefore the involvement of each citizen in socio-political affairs of the state is compulsory as well as it’s their duty. Mean while, the state tried to recognize the active social groups of the society which makes better administration and to bring stability in political environment. The involvements of all social groups in the politics are the illustration for the good administration of a state but unfortunately, there are a few limitations which control the civil society in to the active political participation. The political behaviour of human being is changing by the circumstances where he involved and influenced by the political activities. However, among the several groups of civil society youth group are play a significant role in contemporary scenarios. The aspirations of youth in politics are determined to achieve the desired goals of the government as well as to the solutions of problems facing by youth. Therefore ‘youth’ are facilitator to the success of ‘modern democracy’. Youth are the active social partner today and their immense attitude towards the politics is different than the other groups of civil society. In contemporary period young generation identify the politics based on their opinions, ideas and reviews which brings the principles of democracy in real. Hence, the young people are facing number of problems in changing political environment that has continuously offers them in more number to prior participation in politics.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the impact of the historical development and regulation of Nigeria's capital market on its sanitization and performance and found that regulatory failure has been respon-sible for adverse performance of the Nigeria capital market over the years.
Abstract: The study examined the e˙ects of the historical development and regulation of Nigeria’s capital market on its sanitization and performance. Accordingly, the normative and positiveforms of theory of regu-lation were adopted with a qualitative research methodology. The preliminary findings of the study suggest that, the two principal regulatory instruments of the Nigerian capital market are the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as its apex institutional framework, and Investment and Securities Act (ISA), 2007 as its legal framework. It was, however, found that, regulatory failure has been respon-sible for adverse performance of the Nigeria capital market over the years. It was also found that, the performance of Nigeria’s capital market has been negatively a˙ected by the global financial crisis of 2007 to 2011, and that, this was heightened by the economic recession that bedevilled the country shortly after the inauguration of the present administration in 2015. It was, therefore, concluded that, historical development and regulation of the Nigerian capital market have not influenced its sanitiza-tion and favourable performance. The study recommended, among other things, that, the selection of oycials of the Securities and Exchange Commission should be based on integrity, merit and credibility, and not on political grounds, party loyalty, sentiments, vested interests, nepotism, favouritism and federal character principle. Also, the leadership of the Nigerian Securities and Exchange Commission should maintain their integrity and uprightness in order to e˙ectively run the a˙airs of the Commis-sion and to enforce its rules and the provisions of the Investment and Securities Act. Furthermore, loopholes in the legal system of the Nigerian capital market should be blocked to a reasonable degree; and there should be a rigorous review of the Investment and Securities Act (ISA) to reflect the dictates of corporate governance for listed companies. Not only that, appropriate sanctions should be given to culprits in order to serve as a deterrent. As such, any case of insider abuse and violation of Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE) rules should be duly prosecuted. Finally, the Nigerian Stock Exchange should dilute the extent of foreign capital in its market capitalization so as to reduce its vulnerability to external shocks.
