Abstract: Edge is one of the most fundamental and significant features. Edge detection is always one of the most classical studying projects of computer vision and image processing field. The fist step of image analysis and understanding is edge detection. The goal of edge detection is to recover information about shapes and reflectance or transmittance in an image. It is one of the fundamental steps in image processing, mage analysis, image patter recognition, and computer vision, as well as in human vision. The correctness and reliability of its results affect directly the comprehension machine system made for objective world. The summary for basic edge detection methods was made. It involved the detection methods only but not filtering, edge location, analysis of algorithm complexity and functional evaluation about a detector.

Abstract: Ghosal algorithm is improved, which is based on analyzing an algorithm of subpixel edge detection presented by Ghosal. It is pointed that Ghosal algorithm has two the shortcomings: not to consider the model effect and the first derivative model of the edge along the gradient direction of the edge. The improved method is presented aiming at the shortcomings. The subpixel coordinates of the edge calculated by the improved algorithm are more precise, and the improved algorithm has the ability of the thinning edge and the accurately locating edge.

Abstract: In view of the traditional Sobel algorithm for edge detection is sensitive to noise,an improved Sobel algorithm of adaptive weights is proposed.The weights depend on the sum of pixel gray value within the template of the Sobel operator.In comparison of processing different noise images,the results show that the improved Sobel algorithm is not only in high calculation efficiency,but also with a strong anti-noise ability.It is proved that the improved Sobel algorithm has higher precision and it is much more effective in edge recognition.

Abstract: For star sensors in CCD, the accuracy of centroid location for star image affects star map identification and determines the effectiveness of measurement. The centroid algorithm is the traditional method for subpixel location,but it is shown that exist a systematic error and a random one. In this research, an analytical study of error was introduced, and the error correction means by bilinear interpolation and adaptive centroid window was described. The experiments showed that the accuracy of this algorithm is better than the traditional centroid algorithm.
