Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors conducted a search on the Google Scholar database, Medline and PubMed up to the 11 of December 2021 to determine the factors that could cause malnutrition in humans, and found that in addition to insufficient intake of the essential nutrient, several chronic diseases including gastrointestinal tract diseases, cancer and sometimes post-surgery complications are also associated with malnutrition.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article , the effects of digested proteins (DP) from chia seed to prevent adipogenesis and adipose tissue inflammation in mice fed a high-fat diet were evaluated. And the results indicated the effectiveness of DP against central obesity and its associated inflammation.

7 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article , the authors investigated the association between a healthier diet, perceived immune fitness, and biomarkers of the immune system and found that a healthy diet was associated with a better immune fitness.

6 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article , a review of the various reported mechanisms of green tea polyphenols in modulating cardio-metabolic health and associated phyto-genomic challenges is presented.

6 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article , the authors performed a systematic review and identified the cytotoxic and selective mechanisms for neoplastic cells and neurotoxic acetogenins and demonstrated punctual and selective anti-cancer action, though its selectivity remains unclear, and effects associated with neurodegeneration.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article , the authors assessed the evidence from preclinical studies about the antioxidant potential of EU extracts as a natural source for prevention and treatment of diseases associated with oxidative stress, and concluded that EU extracts did not show significant effects on GPx levels on cortex.

5 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article , the authors investigated the role of vitamin D in the pathophysiology of COVID-19 disease and found that most patients with COVID19 have decreased vitamin D levels and low levels of vitaminD increase the risk of severe disease.

4 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article , a self-emulsifying drug delivery system (SEDDS) of ginger extract (GE) with glycerin and krill oil (Krill oil) was used to enhance the nutraceutical properties of GE.

4 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors discuss the current evidence showing the effect of curcumin on endothelial function in humans, exploring the mechanisms by which Curcumin can improve endothelial functions.

4 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article , a study was conducted to determine nutritional status and use of food supplements during COVID-19 pandemic and found that while participants did not make significant changes in their eating habits compared to before pandemic, the use of nutritional supplements increased to maintain good health.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors characterized the antitumoral effect (effects on cell proliferation, culture growth, viability, migration, oxidative stress levels, cell cycle and apoptosis) of carotenoids on a triple-negative human breast cancer cell line (MDA-MB-231) and investigated interference with nutrient cellular uptake as a contributing mechanism.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article , a study was conducted to identify new vitagenes whose induction provides benefits in aging and/or neurodegenerative diseases, and the results showed that the induction of Vitagenes is relevant during aging.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors examined whether MCT intake inhibits nephropathy development in a type 2 diabetic mouse model and found that the C16/C18-rich mice exhibited expansion of the mesangial region in the kidney.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: Resistant starch (RS) consists of a glucose plant polymer that is extremely abundant in nature and easily obtained through simple technological processes in the food industry, and it is used as a substrate by the gut microbiota as mentioned in this paper .

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article , the authors discuss the main literature evidence suggesting that these pathologically activated transduction pathways can be targeted with an integrated pharmacological and nutritional, pharmanutrition, strategy.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article , the authors showed that inulin dietary supplementation decreased the Toll-like receptor 4 transmembrane protein gene (TLR4) expression and interleukin 6 (IL6) in the epididymal adipose tissue, resulting in decreased adipocyte hypertrophy.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article , the authors investigated the neuroprotective role of crocin in a repetitive mild traumatic brain injury (rmTBI) mouse model and thus fit the pharmacological scope of pharmanutrition.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article , the authors discuss recent advancements in the understanding of host-microbes interactions in IBD and the basis to promote homeostatic immune responses through microbe-targeted therapies.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper , a specific association of these active nutrients was tested in human cholinergic neurons, chosen as a cellular model related to learning and memory processes, and the results confirmed the beneficial effects of the simultaneous administration of vitamin E, folic acid, magnesium and omega-3.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In a cross-sectional study as mentioned in this paper , the authors examined factors associated with use of a commercial omega-3 supplement for children (1-18 years) among 280 Thai, Chinese and Vietnamese parents.

Journal ArticleDOI

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article , the effect of green coffee extract on local colorectal morphophysiological and systemic inflammatory and oxidative changes in an animal model of colon cancer (CRC) was assessed in male Wistar rats for 5 weeks by dimethylhydrazine.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article , a review of dietary and nutraceutical remedies for the prevention of menopause is presented, focusing on three main risk factors for postmenopausal breast cancer: visceral obesity, metabolic syndrome, and increased aromatase expression.
