TL;DR: The results show that most of these dosimeter materials used for routine dosimetry in radiation processing with gamma radiation when used under extreme conditions of relative humidity and temperature may give erroneous readings unless suitable corrections are made.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: The present work shows measurements at high dose rates for calibrations with gamma rays, and finds that only those plastics containing the radiochromic triphenylmethane cyanides or methoxides, i.e. nylon, polychlorostyrene, polyvinylbutyral, orpolyvinylpyrrolidone, can correctly interpret dose determinations from electron beam irradiation.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the radiation crosslinking of thermoplastic elastomeric automotive parts and EPDM electrical insulation, and found that these properties improve mar resistance, flexural set and deformation at elevated temperatures.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, a semi-solid mixture with high energy radiations was considered, and it was shown that the polymer itself becomes activated by the radiation and the monomer is then homografted on its own polymer.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the physical aspects of electron beam processing are discussed and a practical method for estimating the required specifications of the electron accelerator is presented for electron energies between 0.30 and 10.0 MeV.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the influence of specific parameters on the chemical effects in irradiated foods were investigated. Among the parameters considered are: food composition, physical state of components, irradiation temperature, dose-rate, and total dose.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the effects achieved by the radiation of a rubber are quite similar to those resulting from heat, however, radiation cure or precure of compounds offers the advantage that the degree of crosslinking can be better controlled.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the addition of acid to the methanol-styrene system enhances the grafting rate of styrene to polypropylene still further and they attributed the effect to hydrogen atoms.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: The study reported here is concerned with the radiating of acrylamide to polymer supports for evaluation as a new biomaterial.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, a model for the viscoelastic behavior of flexible polymers is proposed to account for the non-network and network fraction formed not only by permanent crosslinks induced by radiation, but also by chain entanglements whose lifetime (on the scale of NMR measurements) may be adequate to act as temporary crosslinks.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the decoloration and degradation of a commercial anthraquinone dye (Acid Blue 40) was carried out by electron-beam irradiation, and experiments were done in a flow system using a five-stage, dual-tube bubbling column reactor.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the use of high energy radiation for the synthesis and improvement of polymer properties and the formulation of radiation curable compounds for automotive/appliance wire applications and high voltage insulation is discussed.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors found that the enhanced radiation crosslinking tendency of polyvinyl acetate and ethylene-ethyl acrylate copolymers over homopolymer is proportional to the comonomer content, which is caused by an increase in amorphous polymer content and by structure-related factors.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the effect of 2,4-hexadiyn-1,6-bis(ethyl urethane) and HDDEU on crosslinking in polyethylene.
