TLDR
An interview based approach to gathering data on the effects of the introduction of a new system on the work lives of potential adopters and their preferences for, or feelings about, those activities and interactions is described.
Abstract
Planning for a successful MIS implementation requires understanding the effects of the introduction of a new system on the work lives of potential adopters. The effects can bee assessed by the MIS practitioner/change agent if the agent will first obtain a thorough and specific understanding of the task activities performed by potential adopters, the interactions they engage in as they perform their tasks, and their preferences for, or feelings about, those activities and interactions. An interview based approach to gathering this data is described, and a short description of an implementation in which the approach was used is provided.

A model of users' perspective on change: the case of information systems technology implementation

TL;DR: The E-I model provides a useful framework of analysis for improving the understanding of users' assessment of a change and managers will find the model useful for overcoming resistance to change during implementation.

Utilization as a dependent variable in MIS research

TL;DR: This paper addresses measurement issues associated with utilization variables by asserting that utilization can be measured effectively if the measures chosen correspond to the measures suggested by an appropriate reference theory.

A system implementation study: management commitment to project management

TL;DR: The results of the analysis show that the organizational priority given to implementation projects by top management is only associated indirectly with improved user information satisfaction (UIS), and only when this priority occurs in the management of continuing development and enhancement does top management support seem to be significant to users.

An Application of Expectancy Theory to Explain a Manager's Intention to Use a Decision Support System

TL;DR: In this article, the authors employ expectancy theory to explain managers' intentions to use a decision support system (DSS) and find that the variables of the expectancy force model are determinants of a manager's behavioral intention to use the DSS, and the expectancy valence model is determinant of the attractiveness of using a DSS to a manager.

Understanding the information content in MIS management tools

TL;DR: It is suggested that failure to address the uncertainty and equivocality that exist during the development and implementation of a new management information system is a major reason why projects fail.
