A new method for analyzing data from partial registration-plate surveys is described that uses an analysis method that incorporates safeguards that are designed to ensure that spurious registration matches are not made.
Abstract
Registration-plate surveys are an established technique in transport engineering for measuring a wide variety of traffic characteristics. For example, surveys can be used to determine routing patterns and trip times by noting the vehicle registration at a range of key sites in the survey area. Similarly, turning flows at intersections can be measured by noting the registration of vehicles that enter and leave the intersection. This paper describes a new method for analyzing data from partial registration-plate surveys that uses an analysis method that incorporates safeguards that are designed to ensure that spurious registration matches are not made. The method uses time windows and other safeguards to ensure all registration matches are genuine. The method is described in detail.

Maximum likelihood estimation of an origin-destination matrix from a partial registration plate survey

TL;DR: The present paper addresses the problem of finding a maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) of an origin-destination matrix and of journey time statistics--when passage time data are available, in the multiple origin/destination case.

Dynamic OD-Matrix Estimation from Traffic Counts and Automated Vehicle Identification Data

TL;DR: Experiments with a large number of synthetic datasets show a reduction of the error of estimation due to usage of trajectory counts, and, compared to the traditional DCLS and Kalman filtering methods, a superior performance of the Bayesian updating procedure.

Methodology of OD Matrix Estimation Based on Video Recordings and Traffic Counts

TL;DR: The proposed methodology allows to estimate the OD matrix, which could be used for microscopic traffic modelling in case of dynamic routing application in the model, and is demonstrated in detail and demonstrated in Riga city.

Estimation of origin–destination trip rates in Leicester

TL;DR: Results for a revised model indicate that a degree of overdispersion exists, but that the estimates of origin–destination flow rates are quite insensitive to the change in model specification.

Estimation of origin-destination trip rates in Leicester

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used road link traffic count data from April 1994 to estimate the origin-destination flow rates for region RA of Leicester, and the posterior is explored using the Hastings-Metropolis algorithm, since its normalizing constant is not available.
