TLDR
Based on experiments on synthetic images containing various levels of noise, the authors determined that one of these distance measures, called the modified Hausdorff distance (MHD) has the best performance for object matching.Abstract:
The purpose of object matching is to decide the similarity between two objects. This paper introduces 24 possible distance measures based on the Hausdorff distance between two point sets. These measures can be used to match two sets of edge points extracted from any two objects. Based on experiments on synthetic images containing various levels of noise, the authors determined that one of these distance measures, called the modified Hausdorff distance (MHD) has the best performance for object matching. The advantages of MHD ever other distances are also demonstrated on several edge snaps of objects extracted from real images.read more

Cylindrical Shape Decomposition for 3D Segmentation of Tubular Objects
TL;DR: A cylindrical shape decomposition algorithm to decompose an object, a union of several tubular structures, into its semantic components, which is robust to severe surface noise and outperforms state-of-the-art decomposition techniques in its applications.

TL;DR: In this paper, a fully automatic pipeline for 3D-2D global registration in laparoscopic liver interventions is proposed, which can estimate the camera pose without any manual input during surgery.

Diagnosing the Sensitivity of Binary Image Measures to Bias, Location, and Event Frequency within a Forecast Verification Framework
TL;DR: In this paper, four binary distance measures are presented and the response of each to changes in event frequency, bias, and displacement error is documented, and it is shown that the modified and partial Hausdorff distances are only sensitive to the changes in base rate, bias and displacement between the forecast and observation.

Vehicle attitude estimation in adverse weather conditions using a camera, a GPS and a 3D road map
TL;DR: This work investigates the scenario of a vehicle equipped with a camera and a GPS driving on a road whose 3D map is known and discusses the pros and cons of the obtained road registrations in the images and of the vehicle pitch-roll estimates, with respect to the vehicle dynamics and the driving environment, in adverse weather conditions.

Comparing images using the Hausdorff distance
TL;DR: Efficient algorithms for computing the Hausdorff distance between all possible relative positions of a binary image and a model are presented and it is shown that the method extends naturally to the problem of comparing a portion of a model against an image.

2D matching of 3D moving objects in color outdoor scenes
Dubuisson,Jain +1 more
TL;DR: An object matching system which is able to extract objects of interest from outdoor scenes and match them to obtain a reliable estimate of the average travel time in a road network is described.
