TLDR
Masonry construction is the leading construction method for building constructions worldwide as mentioned in this paper and despite their relatively poor seismic performance, masonry buildings have widespread appeal owing to their widespread appeal and their low cost.Abstract:

In-plane behaviour of masonry walls embedding with steel welded wire mesh overlay with mortar
TL;DR: In this article , the structural behavior of masonry walls strengthened with steel-welded wire mesh (WWM) overlay with mortar to improve their in-plane shear strength and deformation capacity was investigated.

Characteristics, as a shield against ionizing photons, of concrete blocks used in the construction industry.
Christian Geovanni Hernandez-Murillo,Luis Alberto Escalera-Velasco,Héctor Asael de Leon-Martinez,Hector Rene Vega-Carrillo,J. R. Molina Contreras,Dania Moreira del Río,Daniel Jauregui Acevedo +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the percentage mass content of each atom in the sample is obtained with the energy-dispersed X-ray fluorescence, these results are used to calculate the characteristics such as shielding of the concrete blocks, which have been partially reported, in this work several characteristics are presented for photons from 1 keV to 100 GeV, such as linear attenuation coefficients, the hemireductive layer, effective, atomic and electronic sections, the effective atomic number (Zef), and exposure of accumulation and energy absorption factors (EBF, EABF).

Effectiveness of two forms of grouted reinforced confinement methods to hollow concrete masonry panels
TL;DR: In this article, a study on the effectiveness of two forms of reinforced grout confining systems for hollow concrete block masonry is presented, which involves experimental testing and finite-element (FE) modeling of six diagonally loaded masonry panels containing the two confining system.

Performance of masonry buildings during the Emilia 2012 earthquake
Andrea Penna,Paolo Morandi,Maria Rota,Carlo Filippo Manzini,Francesca da Porto,Guido Magenes +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the performance of common architectural configurations, typical for residential or business use, was evaluated for repeated shaking in low-rise masonry buildings, with PGA as large as 0.25-0.3.

Experimental In-Plane Shear Strength Investigation of Reinforced Concrete Masonry Walls
Kok Voon,Jason Ingham +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present test results of ten single-story reinforced concrete masonry shear walls and compare them with design formulae specified by the New Zealand masonry design standard NZS 4230:1990 and by the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program.

Seismic behaviour of confined masonry walls
Miha Tomaževič,Iztok Klemenc +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a trilinear model of lateral resistance is proposed, where the resistance is calculated as a combination of the shear resistance of the plain masonry wall panel and dowel effect of the tie-columns' reinforcement.

The use of fibre reinforced polymers to improve seismic resistance of masonry
TL;DR: Fibre reinforced polymers (FRP) as discussed by the authors constitute a class of advanced composite materials which have the potential to change significantly masonry rehabilitation and strengthening, and their light weight means that they do not alter the mass of a structure and thus the inertial forces from seismic excitation.

Shear resistance of masonry walls and Eurocode 6: shear versus tensile strength of masonry
TL;DR: In this paper, the results of a series of laboratory tests are analyzed to show that in the case of the diagonal tension shear failure, the Eurocode 6 based calculations are not in agreement with the actual resistance of masonry walls.
