A sub-pixel analysis of urbanization effect on land surface temperature and its interplay with impervious surface and vegetation coverage in Indianapolis, United States

TLDR
Results indicate that multi-temporal fraction images were effective for quantifying the dynamics of urban morphology and for deriving a reliable measurement of environmental variables such as vegetation abundance and impervious surface coverage.

Thermal infrared remote sensing for urban climate and environmental studies: Methods, applications, and trends

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a survey of methods, techniques, and applications of remotely sensed TIR data used in urban climate and environmental studies, mainly for analyzing land surface temperature (LST) patterns and its relationship with surface characteristics, assessing urban heat island (UHI), and relating LSTs with surface energy fluxes.

Effects of spatial pattern of greenspace on urban cooling in a large metropolitan area of eastern China

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of the spatial pattern of greenspace on urban temperatures or the optimal spatial patterns needed to cool an urban environment were analyzed using correlation analyses. And the results indicated that areas with a higher percentage of forest vegetation experience a greater cooling effect and a 10% increase in forest-vegetation area resulted in a decrease of about 0.83°C in surface temperature.

Simulating land cover changes and their impacts on land surface temperature in Dhaka, Bangladesh

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used artificial neural network (ANN) to simulate land cover changes for 2019 and 2029 and estimated their impacts on land surface temperature (LST) in fast growing mega cities of developing countries.

A transformation for ordering multispectral data in terms of image quality with implications for noise removal

TL;DR: In this paper, a transformation known as the maximum noise fraction (MNF) transformation is presented, which always produces new components ordered by image quality, and it can be shown that this transformation is equivalent to principal components transformations when the noise variance is the same in all bands and that it reduces to a multiple linear regression when noise is in one band only.

Estimation of land surface temperature-vegetation abundance relationship for urban heat island studies

TL;DR: In this article, the applicability of vegetation fraction derived from a spectral mixture model as an alternative indicator of vegetation abundance was investigated based on examination of a Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) image of Indianapolis City, IN, USA, acquired on June 22, 2002.
