TLDR
The authors focused on experimental reaction time evidence in support of the theory and showed that the speaker monitors the output and self-corrects, if necessary, selfcorrecting to correct the output.Abstract:
The generation of words in speech involves a number of processing stages. There is, first, a stage of conceptual preparation; this is followed by stages of lexical selection, phonological encoding, phonetic encoding and articulation. In addition, the speaker monitors the output and, if necessary, self-corrects. Major parts of the theory have been computer modelled. The paper concentrates on experimental reaction time evidence in support of the theory.read more

Toward a mechanistic psychology of dialogue
Martin J. Pickering,Simon Garrod +1 more
TL;DR: A mechanistic account of dialogue, the interactive alignment account, is proposed and used to derive a number of predictions about basic language processes, and the need for a grammatical framework that is designed to deal with language in dialogue rather than monologue is considered.

Mental Control of the Bilingual Lexico-Semantic System.
TL;DR: The IC model is used to expand the explanation of the effect of category blocking in translation proposed by Kroll and Stewart (1994), and predictions of the model are tested against other data.

Dorsal and ventral streams: a framework for understanding aspects of the functional anatomy of language.

TL;DR: It is shown how damage to different components of this framework can account for the major symptom clusters of the fluent aphasias, and some recent evidence concerning how sentence-level processing might be integrated into the framework is discussed.

The spatial and temporal signatures of word production components.
TL;DR: A comparison of the word production results with studies on auditory word/non-word perception and reading showed that the time course of activations in word production is compatible with the temporal constraints that perception processes impose on the production processes they affect in picture/word interference paradigms.

The architecture of the bilingual word recognition system: From identification to decision
TL;DR: A new model, called the BIA+, is proposed, which extends the old one by adding phonological and semantic lexical representations to the available orthographic ones, and assigns a different role to the so-called language nodes.

The magical number seven, plus or minus two: some limits on our capacity for processing information
TL;DR: The theory of information as discussed by the authors provides a yardstick for calibrating our stimulus materials and for measuring the performance of our subjects and provides a quantitative way of getting at some of these questions.

Learning internal representations by error propagation
TL;DR: In this paper, the problem of the generalized delta rule is discussed and the Generalized Delta Rule is applied to the simulation results of simulation results in terms of the generalized delta rule.

A feature-integration theory of attention

TL;DR: A new hypothesis about the role of focused attention is proposed, which offers a new set of criteria for distinguishing separable from integral features and a new rationale for predicting which tasks will show attention limits and which will not.
