Adjectival Inflection and the Position of Measure Phrases
TLDR
It is shown that this movement serves to avoid violating locality when the T head tries to enter into a multiple agreement relation with the adjective as well as with the subject.Abstract:
Corver (2009) accounts for the postadjectival placement of the measure phrase in Romance by preposing the adjectival phrase over the measure phrase. I show that this movement serves to avoid violating locality when the T head tries to enter into a multiple agreement relation with the adjective as well as with the subject. I also suggest that the feature content of the potentially intervening measure phrase influences the range of parametric options.read more

Hidden nominal structures in Japanese clausal comparatives
TL;DR: In this article, a syntactic analysis of Japanese clausal comparatives is presented, where the differences between Japanese-type and English-type comparative constructions are solely attributed to their morphosyntactic properties.

Non-neutral interpretation of adjectives under measure phrase modification
TL;DR: The authors showed that a measure phrase appears in a projection lower than the one that hosts pos, on the basis of the detailed investigation into Japanese adjectival structures featuring a measurephrase, structures that have not received proper attention in the past.

Measure Words as Nouns: A Perspective From Silent Years
TL;DR: This paper showed that measure words are nouns, not classifiers, in languages with numeral classifiers based on striking similarities exhibited by expressions in English and Japanese having to do with human age, especially when the head noun corresponding to "year" is missing.

Measure phrases with bare adjectives in Spanish
Luis Eguren,Alberto Pastor +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an unnoticed Spanish construction that includes a measure phrase and a non-comparative adjective conforming to an [MP+de+A] pattern (e.g., Esta mesa tiene [un metro de ancha] ‘(lit.) this table has one meter of wide’) is analyzed.

Prolegomenon to a Theory of Argument Structure
Ken Hale,Samuel Jay Keyser +1 more
TL;DR: This article examined the behavior of lexical items in terms of a very small number of very simple principles, where a lexical item is assumed to project a syntactic configuration defined over two relations, complement and specifier, where these configurations are constrained to preclude iteration and to permit only binary branching.

Scale Structure, Degree Modification, and the Semantics of Gradable Predicates
TL;DR: The authors developed a semantic typology of gradable predicates, with special emphasis/non deverbal adjectives, and argued for the linguistic relevance of this typology by demonstrating/n that the distribution and interpretation of degree modifiers is sensitive to its two major classificatory/nparameters: (1) whether a gradable predicate is associated with what we call an open or closed/nscale, and (2) whether the standard of comparison for the applicability of the predicate is absolute/nor relative to a context.

Parameters of Slavic morphosyntax
TL;DR: Franks as discussed by the authors developed parametric solutions to related constructions among Slavic languages and used them as an introduction to Government and Binding (GB) Theory for Slavic linguists.
