TLDR
In this paper, the coadsorption of bovine serum albumin and trace quantities of its methylated derivative obtained by reductive alkylation (14CH3-BSA) on montmorillonite has been studied by a batch method involving a first adsorption stage of BSA for a time τ 1, followed by a second adhering stage of CH3 -BSA for time τ 2.

Clays and Clay Minerals for Pollution Control

TL;DR: In this paper, the processes, mechanisms, and applications of clay minerals in the adsorption, removal, and stabilization of natural organic matter, heavy metal contaminants, organic and biological cations, and non-ionic organic compounds are summarized.
Journal ArticleDOI

Increased soil organic carbon sequestration through hydrophobic protection by humic substances

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of humified organic matter (OM) on the mineralization of a representative labile organic compound in soil was studied and it was shown that the higher the hydrophobicity of humic material, the larger was the sequestration of organic carbon in soil.
Journal ArticleDOI

Conformational Changes of Bovine Serum Albumin Induced by Adsorption on Different Clay Surfaces: FTIR Analysis

TL;DR: The results emphasize the importance of electrostatic interactions in both adsorption processes, and the forces that attract hydrophobic side chains toward the protein-clay interface are large enough to distort peripheral amphiphilic helical domains.

Chapter 11.1 clays and clay minerals for pollution control

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss the applications of clays and clay materials for pollution control and discuss the requirements for pre-treatment that enhance their effectiveness in each case, and provide some of the particular or proposed applications for clays.

Ordered Electrochemically Active Films of Hemoglobin, Didodecyldimethylammonium Ions, and Clay

TL;DR: The average formal potential of Hb heme FeIII/FeII couples in DDAB−clay films shifted linearly between pH 4.5 and 11 with a slope of −52 mV pH-1, suggesting that the Hb was partly, but not fully, intercalated between clay platelets.
