Anionic Polymerization of Acrylic Monomers. 14. Carbon-13 and Lithium-7 NMR Characterization of the Complexation of Methyl .alpha.-Lithioisobutyrate with Various Lithium Cation-Binding Ligands in Tetrahydrofuran

TLDR
In this paper, the aggregation equilibrium and electronic structure of methyl α-lithioisobutyrate (MIBLi), a monomeric model structurally corresponding to a living poly(methyl methacrylate) chain end associated with a lithium countercation, has been examined by 7 Li and/or 13 C NMR spectroscopy in THF in the presence of various lithium cation-binding ligands.
Abstract
The aggregation equilibrium and electronic structure of methyl α-lithioisobutyrate (MIBLi), a monomeric model structurally corresponding to a living poly(methyl methacrylate) chain end associated with a lithium countercation, has been examined by 7 Li and/or 13 C NMR spectroscopy in THF in the presence of various lithium cation-binding ligands. The addition of dimethoxyethane (DME), triglyme (glyme-3), 12-crown-4 (12-CE-4), and hexamethylphosphoric triamide (HMPA) to coexisting tetrameric and dimeric MIBLi in THF induces an increase in dimeric population in the order DME< glyme-3< 12-CE-4< HMPA

Glyme−Lithium Salt Phase Behavior

TL;DR: The phase diagrams clearly illustrate how solvate formation and thermophysical properties are dictated by the ionic association strength of the salt and chain length of the solvating molecules.

Glymes as versatile solvents for chemical reactions and processes: from the laboratory to industry

TL;DR: Glymes, also known as glycol diethers, are saturated non-cyclic polyethers containing no other functional groups that are found in a broad range of laboratory applications including organic synthesis, electrochemistry, biocatalysis, materials, and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD).

Group Transfer Polymerization of (Meth)acrylic Monomers Catalyzed by N-Heterocyclic Carbenes and Synthesis of All Acrylic Block Copolymers: Evidence for an Associative Mechanism

TL;DR: N-Heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) namely, 1,3-bis-(diisopropyl)imidazol-2-ylidene (1) and 1, 3-bis(di-tert-butyl)IMIDazol -2-YLIDene (2) were employed as neutral organocatalysts to bring about the grou...
