Arabian Plate Sequence Stratigraphy as discussed by the authors is the first publication to present a modern sequence stratigraphic review of the entire Arabian Plate stratigraphraphic succession, extending from the Mediterranean to the Gulf of Aden, and from the Red Sea to the Zagros suture.
Abstract
Arabian Plate Sequence Stratigraphy is the first publication to present a modern sequence stratigraphic review of the entire Arabian Plate stratigraphic succession, extending from the Mediterranean to the Gulf of Aden, and from the Red Sea to the Zagros suture. Biostratigraphic, lithostratigraphic, sedimentological, geochemical, oil industry and other data have been reviewed from the literature and re-presented to illustrate the tectonic and stratigraphic evolution of the plate. Key well logs, cross-sections, outcrop photos and other data are presented in full colour to illustrate the location and correlation of maximum flooding surfaces and unconformities. These key stratal surfaces allow an assessment of the geometric relationship between source rocks, reservoirs and seals. The Arabian Plate contains two-thirds of the worlds oil reserves, and produces about one-third of daily world oil production. These figures are likely to rise in the future such that the Arabian Plate approaches 50% of daily world oil production. A modern interpretation of the stratigraphy producing this oil is thus of interest to global geoscience.

Mixed carbonate-siliciclastic sequence development influenced by astronomical forcing on a distal foreland, Miocene Dam Formation, eastern Saudi Arabia

TL;DR: In this paper, the role played by astronomical forcing, moderate glacio-eustasy (20-to 40m sea-level changes), and tectonic deformation in this distal foreland setting was examined.

Facies analysis and sequence stratigraphy of the uppermost Jurassic– Lower Cretaceous Sulaiy Formation in outcrops of central Saudi Arabia

TL;DR: In this paper, a facies and sequence-stratigraphic analysis based on detailed sedimentological and gamma-ray logging of 12 outcrop sections of the Sulaiy Formation is provided.

Oil seeps affinity and basin modeling used for hydrocarbon discoveries in the Kifle, Merjan, and Ekheither fields, West Iraq

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used plots of tricyclic terpane (C22/C21, C24/C23, and C26/C25 and hopane (c35S/C34S, C29/C30 and C31R/C31) of Najaf and Karbala Governorates oil seeps to assess the Jurassic Butmah, Sargelu, and Lower unit of Najmah formations in Kifle, West Kifle and Merjan, and Ekhaither fields western part of the Euphrates rivers.

Five buried crater structures imaged on reflection seismic data in Saudi Arabia

TL;DR: In this article, reflection seismic data acquired for hydrocarbon exploration in Saudi Arabia have revealed five buried crater structures ranging in diameter from 5 km to 34 km, and various models including impact cratering are discussed here for each structure.

Relationship between the sedimentary microfacies and geomechanical behavior of the Asmari Formation carbonates, southwestern Iran

TL;DR: In this paper, the impact of texture and related sedimentary environments and facies and diagenetic overprint on the geomechanical behavior of the Asmari Formation carbonates was addressed.
