The dynamics of innovation: from National Systems and

TL;DR: In this paper, the Triple Helix of university-industry-government relations is compared with alternative models for explaining the current research system in its social contexts, where the institutional layer can be considered as the retention mechanism of a developing system.

Causation and Effectuation: Toward a Theoretical Shift from Economic Inevitability to Entrepreneurial Contingency

TL;DR: In economics and management theories, scholars have traditionally assumed the existence of artifacts such as firms/organizations and markets as mentioned in this paper, and they argue that an explanation for the creation of such artifacts requires the notion of effectuation.

A critical look at technological innovation typology and innovativeness terminology: a literature review

TL;DR: A review of the literature from the marketing, engineering, and new product development disciplines attempts to put some clarity and continuity to the use of these terms as mentioned in this paper, showing that it is important to consider both a marketing and technological perspective as well as a macro-level and micro-level perspective when identifying innovations.

Knowledge-Based Innovation Systems and the Model of a Triple Helix of University-Industry-Government Relations

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors combine the evolutionary perspective in economics with the reflexive turn from sociology to provide a richer understanding of how knowledge-based systems of innovation are shaped and reconstructed, whereas the institutional arrangements (e.g., national systems) can be expected to remain under reconstruction.

Innovation: A Guide to the Literature

TL;DR: Innovation is not a new phenomenon as discussed by the authors, it is as old as mankind itself and it is argued that no single discipline deals with all aspects of innovation, and that in order to get a comprehensive overview of the role played by innovation in social and economic change, a cross-disciplinary perspective is a must.

Financial Evolution and Central Bank Credit: Ethics, Morals, Taxation, Stagnation and Bank Holidays

TL;DR: The authors discusses the importance of destruction in banking and finance, and identifies the central problem as a lack of opportunity for capitalist evolution strangulated by central bank and government action and the American form of anacyclosis.

Disrupting Aviation: An Exploratory Study of the Opportunities and Risks of Tablet Computers in Commercial Flight Operations.

Abstract: Commercial flight operational safety has dramatically improved in the last 30 years because of enhanced crew coordination, communication, leadership and team development. Technology insertion into cockpit operations, however, has been shown to create crew distractions, resulting in flight safety risks, limited use given policy limitations and difficulty in establishing standard operating procedures. With the recent introduction of tablet computers into the flight cockpit as a substitute for paper-based manuals and navigation charts, the risk of human error may be increased. Though portable electronics, known as electronic flight bags, have been present of the flight deck for a decade, introduction of tablet computers as their replacements offers unique challenges, given the ability to communicate and share information outside established aviation channels. This research explored the opportunities that this technology insertion offers to commercial aviation in areas such as knowledge sharing and operational performance improvement. The results indicate that the opportunities were not realized with the initial implementation because the pilots did not accept the technology due to inadequate training coupled with restrictive policies concerning use.

Measuring business cycles in the Russian Empire

TL;DR: A comparison of diffusion indices for Russia and Germany reveals that Russian cycles occasionally diverged from the European pattern in the absence of war and revolution, notably during the industrial boom of the 1890s as discussed by the authors.
