Extended pointers for memory protection in single address space systems

TL;DR: This work introduces extended pointers as a generalization of the concept of a memory address, which includes a password and an access authorization, and identifies a set of mechanisms aimed at preserving the integrity of the virtual space of a given process from erroneous or fraudulent access attempts originated from other processes.

Increasing the Performance and Predictability of the Code Execution on an Embedded Java Platform

TL;DR: This thesis explores the execution of object-oriented code on an embedded Java platform using the Java-programmed SHAP platform and presents established and derives new approaches for the implementation of high-level objectoriented functionality and commonly expected system services.
Book ChapterDOI

Implementing Distributed Capabilities without a Trusted Kernel

TL;DR: A new scheme for managing capabilities in a distributed system that incorporates novel solutions to both communication and revocation, and exploits recent developments in “zero-knowledge” authentication protocols.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

The end of objects and the last programmer (Invited talk)

Grady Booch
TL;DR: Fukuyama asserted that recent dramatic world events, including the dissolution of the USSR, represented a fundamental and final change in the evolution of governments, in his article The End of History and the Last Man.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Ch’i: Scaling Microkernel Capabilities in Cache-Incoherent Systems

TL;DR: Ch'i as discussed by the authors is a microkernel that leverages incoherent shared memory using quiescence-based techniques to bound the extent of non-coherency in data structures.
