TLDR
In this paper, both harmonic and damped vibrational models of chemical binding in the resonance treatment of uranium compounds were considered, and it was found that the line shape obtained with the harmonic approximation relative to the free-gas, Maxwell model, is shorter at the peak and broader in the wings.

Physics of nuclear reactor safety

TL;DR: In this paper, a review of the physical aspects of safety of nuclear fission reactors is presented, focusing on the main risk sources and the main principles for a safe design, and the physical processes that are fundamental for the properties of fission chain reacting processes and the control of those processes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Anharmonic effects on the resonance line shape of 238U in UO2—III

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented a numerical method for the evaluation of the resonance line shape of 238 U in UO 2 and showed that it is possible to express the line shape as a sum of a convergent series with a very fast rate of convergence.
Journal ArticleDOI

Chemical binding effects on resonant scattering of neutrons

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of chemical binding on resonance broadening was investigated for a harmonic crystal model to examine the chemical binding effect for resonant scattering, and it was shown that at high temperatures or high resonance energies, scattering can be treated using ideal gas with the same effective temperature as for absorption accounting for chemical binding effects.

Anharmonic effects on the resonance line shape of 238U in UO2—III: Cubic, quartic and thermal effects of the phonon shifts and widths on the resonance line shape

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the results obtained by applying six different models to the formalism of the line shapes of 238U in UO2 developed in the first two papers of this series.
Journal ArticleDOI

Experimental evidence sustaining a compact-extended model for doppler broadening of neutron absorption resonances

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented a new model to handle solid state effects on Doppler broadening of neutron absorption resonances (DBNAR) in a simplified manner, which is based on the commonly used effective temperature gas model (ETGM).
