Moment Invariants in Image Analysis

TL;DR: This paper aims to present a survey of object recognition/classification methods based on image moments and moment-based invariants with respect to various image degradations and distortions which can be used as shape descriptors for classification.
Journal ArticleDOI

Blurred Image Recognition by Legendre Moment Invariants

TL;DR: The experimental results show that the proposed descriptors are more robust to noise and have better discriminative power than the methods based on geometric or complex moments.

A Blur-Robust Descriptor with Applications to Face Recognition

TL;DR: This work creates a subspace resulting from convolution of an image with a complete set of orthonormal basis functions of a prespecified maximum size and shows that the corresponding subspaces created from a clean image and its blurred versions are equal under the ideal case of zero noise and some assumptions on the properties of blur kernels.
Journal ArticleDOI

Recognition of Images Degraded by Gaussian Blur

TL;DR: It is proved that the moments of the primordial image are invariant to Gaussian blur and it is shown how to extend their invariance also to image rotation.

Object recognition from local scale-invariant features

TL;DR: Experimental results show that robust object recognition can be achieved in cluttered partially occluded images with a computation time of under 2 seconds.
Journal ArticleDOI

Visual pattern recognition by moment invariants

TL;DR: It is shown that recognition of geometrical patterns and alphabetical characters independently of position, size and orientation can be accomplished and it is indicated that generalization is possible to include invariance with parallel projection.

Image analysis via the general theory of moments

TL;DR: Two-dimensional image moments with respect to Zernike polynomials are defined, and it is shown how to construct an arbitrarily large number of independent, algebraic combinations of zernike moments that are invariant to image translation, orientation, and size as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Invariant image recognition by Zernike moments

TL;DR: A systematic reconstruction-based method for deciding the highest-order ZERNike moments required in a classification problem is developed and the superiority of Zernike moment features over regular moments and moment invariants was experimentally verified.

Local grayvalue invariants for image retrieval

TL;DR: This paper addresses the problem of retrieving images from large image databases with a method based on local grayvalue invariants which are computed at automatically detected interest points and allows for efficient retrieval from a database of more than 1,000 images.
