Journal ArticleDOI
Dispersal patterns of Lonicera periclymenum determined by genetic analysis
TL;DR: Four ways of analysis of genetic similarity among all individuals indicated that exchange of genetic material by seed and pollen occurs to a large extent over small distances and within woodlots, consistent with the dispersal distance as estimated from the average distance between colonized woodlot and the nearest occupied old woodlot in earlier research.
Journal ArticleDOI
Can atmospheric input of nitrogen affect seed bank dynamics in habitats of conservation interest? The case of dune slacks
TL;DR: Most species showed increased germination after fertilisation with nitrogen, including early successional species normally growing in nutrient-poor conditions, which suggests that the increased atmospheric deposition of nitrogen probably not only impacts on established vegetation, but also has the potential to alter seed bank dynamics.
Journal ArticleDOI
Viable seed banks under grazing and exclosure conditions in montane mesic grasslands of Argentina
Alejandro Loydi,Alejandro Loydi,Sergio Martín Zalba,Sergio Martín Zalba,Roberto Alejandro Distel,Roberto Alejandro Distel +5 more
TL;DR: Grazing affects seed bank composition which could limit restoration time after the removal of herbivores, however, grass seed availability increases considerably during a short period after exclosure establishment, showing high potential for recovery in sub-humid grasslands.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of size, taxonomic affiliation and geographic origin of dandelion (Taraxacum agg.) seeds on predation by ground beetles (Carabidae, Coleoptera)
TL;DR: Effects of taxonomic affiliation and geographic origin on preference indicate that stimuli on seed coat and surface are also important for carabid choice, but underlying mechanisms of seed selection remain to be tested.
Journal ArticleDOI
Differential seed dispersal in Oxalis acetosella,a cleistogamous perennial herb
TL;DR: The results of this study contradict the common view that CL progeny should always be dispersed closer to the mother plant than CH progeny, andVariation in dispersal distance in O. acetosella seems to be mainly dependent on a combination of reproductive mode and variation in seed weight.
