Species Responses to Climatic Variation and Land-use Change in Grasslands of Southern Switzerland

TL;DR: A better understanding of regeneration processes and a better knowledge of the regenerative characteristics of grassland herbs would be essential for making better predictions about responses of plant species to altered environmental factors in grasslands.
Journal ArticleDOI

Phenological Changes in the Concentration of Alkaloids of Carex brevicollis in an Alpine Rangeland

TL;DR: It is suggested that brevicarine, not brevicolline, could be the teratogen in pregnant cattle in this region, supported by the observed frequent consumption of inflorescences and scarce consumption of leaves of Carexbrevicollis by grazing livestock, and also by the coincidence of the toxicity in early pregnant cows with the flowering time of the sedge.

The influence of position on genet growth: a simulation of a population of bracken (Pteridium aquilinum (L.) Kuhn) genets under grazing

TL;DR: It is hypothesize that any processes that generate non-linear spatial dynamics will also generate complex genet dynamics and that initial variations in relative mass between genets were little changed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modelling vegetation succession after bracken control

TL;DR: In this paper, a process model to predict vegetation development after bracken control has been developed from existing models of brackens growth and of successional development in set-aside, and the outcome of succession depends on the initial species composition, the seed bank, the type of control and various attributes of the species present.
Journal ArticleDOI

Vegetation changes in Prague's suburban forest during the last 40 years – Human impact and legislative protection

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe vegetation trends in a large suburban forest on the eastern fringe of Prague, Czech Republic and compare the vegetation composition in 1961, 1988 and 2002 on the basis of phytocoenological releves Negative effects of recreation activities were manifested especially in: (a) ecosystem ruderalization (visible as a spread of nitrophilous species); (b) trampling (and the higher percentage of trampling tolerant species); and (c) the spread of particular plant groups, eg, epizoochores).
