Collision partner selection schemes in DSMC: From micro/nano flows to hypersonic flows

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a detailed summary of different collision models developed in the framework of the direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method, i.e., the simplified Bernoulli trial (SBT), which permits efficient low-memory simulation of rarefied gas flows.
Journal ArticleDOI

On DSMC Calculations of Rarefied Gas Flows with Small Number of Particles in Cells

TL;DR: The development and validation of a modified simulation procedure which allows more accurate calculations with a smaller mean number of particles in the grid cells, making the modified DSMC method an effective numerical tool for both steady and unsteady gas flow calculations on fine multidimensional grids.

On Lagrangian stochastic methods for turbulent polydisperse two-phase reactive flows

TL;DR: The Lagrangian stochastic methods for polydisperse two-phase reactive flows have been studied in this article, where the authors provide a comprehensive account of the Lagrangians' work on particle-particle interactions.

Investigation of the ellipsoidal-statistical Bhatnagar–Gross–Krook kinetic model applied to gas-phase transport of heat and tangential momentum between parallel walls

TL;DR: In this paper, the ellipsoidal-statistical Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook (ES-BGK) model is investigated for steady gas-phase transport of heat, tangential momentum, and mass between parallel walls.

A Generalized Form of the Bernoulli Trial Collision Scheme in DSMC: Derivation and Evaluation

TL;DR: A generalized form of the Bernoulli Trial collision scheme (GBT) where the number of selected pairs is any desired value smaller than ( N ( l ) − 1), which improves the computational efficiency of the BT-based collision models compared to the standard no time counter (NTC) and nearest neighbor (NN) collision models.

A convergence proof for Bird's direct simulation Monte Carlo method for the Boltzmann equation

TL;DR: In this article, the limit of the random empirical measures associated with the Bird algorithm is shown to be a deterministic measure-valued function satisfying an equation close (in a certain sense) to the Boltzmann equation.

Cell size dependence of transport coefficients in stochastic particle algorithms

TL;DR: In this paper, the dependence of the viscosity and thermal conductivity on cell size for stochastic particle methods such as direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) and its generalization, the consistent Boltzmann algorithm (CBA) was investigated.

Analysis of discretization in the direct simulation Monte Carlo

TL;DR: In this paper, a continuous-time formulation of the direct simulation Monte Carlo was proposed, which allows the evaluation of the transport coefficient dependence on the time step through the use of the Green-Kubo theory.
